Flood Frequency Analysis for the 1988 Truro Floods
Water and Environment Journal, 1990ABSTRACTIn January 1988 the city of Truro experienced a severe flood from the River Kenwyn. The return period of this event was initially estimated at 350 years using the methodology recommended in the Flood Studies Report1. In October of the same year a second flood, of even greater magnitude, occurred. The subsequent investigations employed a variety

Regional Flood Frequency Analysis using L-Moments
Civil-Comp Proceedings, 2009Regional flood frequency analysis was performed using L-moments. The analysis uses annual maximum flood data observed at a desired project location or streamgaging station to estimate flood quantiles. Regional flood frequency analysis involves four stages: screening of the data, identification of homogeneous regions, choice of a regional frequency ...

Multifractal flood frequency analysis
2007Hydrology and more generally sciences involved in water resources management, researches and technological or operational development face a fundamental difficulty: the extreme variability of hydrological fields. It clearly appears today that this variability is a function of the observation scale and yield natural hazards such as floods or droughts ...

Site-Specific Flood Frequency Analysis
1997We first summarize and supplement the site-specific analysis done before. Our program concerning the site specific analysis was already outlined in Section 2.5, namely we want to handle the serial correlation and seasonal variation in the data. Our primary interest still concerns the calculation of the T-year threshold, yet we also briefly discuss the ...

Flood frequency analysis of simulated flows
Water Resources Research, 1992When conventional statistical techniques are used with model‐simulated flows to estimate flood frequencies for different basin scenarios or for regulated flow conditions, the resulting estimates can appear inconsistent with the simulated flood data. In this paper we describe a new approach for flood frequency analysis of model‐simulated flows.

Flood Frequency Analysis Using Bayesian Paradigm
2020At-site flood frequency analysis (FFA) of extreme hydrological events under Bayesian paradigm has been carried out and compared with frequentist paradigm of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE). The main objective of this chapter is to identify the best approach between Bayesian and frequentist one for at-site FFA.

Copula-Based Flood Frequency Analysis
2018The Von Mises distribution and the Pearson Type III distribution are used to describe the occurrence dates and magnitudes of annual maximum flood series, respectively. A bivariate joint distribution is developed based on Gumbel Archimedean copula. A modified inference functions for margins (MIFM) method is used to establish the marginal distribution ...

Non-stationary pooled flood frequency analysis
Journal of Hydrology, 2003Abstract The presence of significant non-stationarity in a hydrologic time series cannot be ignored when estimating design values for future time horizons. This paper introduces a second-order non-stationary approach to pooled flood frequency analysis.
