Involvement of construction management professionals in property-level flood adaptation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Flooding is a significant concern across the UK that has caused property damage, economic impact and health and safety concerns. The national climate change risk assessment for the UK projects the risk of flooding to increase in the future, and thus ...

Wood‐Based Bioelectronics: Lignosulfonate‐Based Conductive Biocomposites for Paper Organic Electrochemical Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Biodegradable wood‐based bioelectronics are realized by integrating poly (2,3‐ethylenedioxythiopene:lignosulfonate (PEDOT:LigS) as a mixed ionicelectronic channel in organic electrochemical transistors fabricated on paper substrates. The biocomposite exhibits high conductivity, biocompatibility, and strong transistor performance, while devices built on

Assessing Mesoscale Heterogeneities in Hard Carbon Electrodes Through Deep Learning‐Assisted FIB‐SEM Characterization, Manufacturing and Electrochemical Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A combination of discrete and finite element method models for the current collector deformation and electrochemical performance analysis, respectively. The models are calibrated and validated with electrochemical and imaging data of hard carbon electrodes. These electrodes were manufactured with different parameters (slurry solid contents of 35 and 40

Flood-risk mapping: contributions towards an enhanced assessment of extreme events and associated risks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Currently, a shift from classical flood protection as engineering task towards integrated flood risk management concepts can be observed. In this context, a more consequent consideration of extreme events which exceed the design event of flood protection

Selective Electrolysis of Water Under Artificial Seawater Conditions Using Transition Metal Borate Anodes

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The borate‐based cobalt‐iron catalyst promotes selective oxidation of water rather than chlorine evolution reaction during electrolysis of seawater. When integrated into a zero‐gap electrolyzer prototype, this catalyst supports robust splitting of artificial seawater into oxygen and hydrogen on an extended timescale.

Hydrological simulation of extreme flood scenarios for operational flood management at the Middle Elbe river [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Operational flood management at the Middle Elbe river requires comprehensive knowledge about the magnitude and characteristics of possible extreme flood events. Since these events are not sufficiently included in available historical records, an extended

Emerging Materials and Future Strategies for Solid Oxide Electrochemical Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Solid oxide electrochemical cells operate under strongly coupled electrochemical and thermodynamic conditions, where performance is constrained by interactions among crystal structure, defect chemistry, and interfacial evolution. This review, based on a structure‐defect‐property‐durability framework, reveals the roles of lattice symmetry and defect ...

Living With Peak Discharge Uncertainty: The Self-learning Dike [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Although river dikes still play a key role for flood protection in the Netherlands\ud there is a growing interest for other measures to deal with larger peak discharges, such as\ud lowering or widening the floodplains.
