Graphene as Infrared and Electron Transparent Electrode Applied to the Design of Narrow Bandgap Nanocrystal‐Based Photodiode

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The article explores the need for transparent conductive electrode in the context of nanocrystal based infrared photodetectors beyond traditional transparent conductive oxide and metallic grids. Use of such sensor for imaging where the diode is deposited on a read‐out integrated circuit raised the need for top transparent electrode.

Potential Inundation Due to Rising Sea Levels in the San Francisco Bay Region

open access: yesSan Francisco Estuary and Watershed Science, 2010
An increase in the rate of sea level rise is one of the primary impacts of projected global climate change. To assess potential inundation associated with a continued acceleration of sea level rise, the highest resolution elevation data available were ...

Robust-yet-fragile nature of partly engineered social-ecological systems: a case study of coastal Bangladesh

open access: yesEcology and Society, 2017
Modern social-ecological systems are often partly engineered to enhance the robustness (or reduce the variance) of human welfare to environmental fluctuations over a foreseeable time horizon.

Thermo‐Optical Analysis of Surface‐ and Volume‐Additivated Polymer Powders for Near‐Infrared Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Precipitated PA11 powders for laser powder bed fusion are additivated with small amounts of carbon black nanoparticles on and in the particles. The position of the nanoparticles has a strong impact on dispersion, crystallization, and thermal oxidation.

Post-mining of the Ukraine’s mining regions as a new direction for the environmentally safe use of mineral resources

open access: yesМінеральні ресурси України, 2020
The growth of market requirements for socio-economic and environmental parameters of mineral resources in most developed (“old”) mining areas (MA) of Ukraine has led to the closure of mines and quarries, including by the method of “wet conservation ...

Insights into the Mechanism of Wettability Alteration by Low-Salinity Flooding (LSF) in Carbonates

open access: yes, 2015
The low-salinity effect (LSE) in carbonate rock has been less explored in comparison to sandstone rock. Laboratory experiments have shown that brine composition and (somewhat reduced) salinity can have a positive impact on oil recovery in carbonates ...

Zero‐Power, Optical Toxic Gas and Vapor Sensors Utilizing Printed Nematic Liquid Crystal Patterns on Selectively Reactive Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
Fast response, zero‐power, text or image sensors utilizing light transmission or reflection, and no unfavorable color change judgments, are fabricated using printed nematic liquid crystals patterned on reactive alignment layers, permit ppt‐ to ppb‐level sensitivity, and were field‐tested with active firefighters.

Investigating compound flooding in an estuary using hydrodynamic modelling: a case study from the Shoalhaven River, Australia

open access: yes, 2017
. Many previous modelling studies have considered storm-tide and riverine flooding independently, even though joint-probability analysis highlighted significant dependence between extreme rainfall and extreme storm surges in estuarine environments.

Flooding and Mental Health: A Systematic Mapping Review

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Background Floods are the most common type of global natural disaster. Floods have a negative impact on mental health. Comprehensive evaluation and review of the literature are lacking.
