Floodlighting of Pedestrian Crossings

It is proposed that pedestrian crossings which require supplementary lighting be floodlit from the direction of the oncoming traffic, so that motorists see the pedestrians illuminated directly. Glare can be avoided by using a light beam of sharp cut-off, and by shielding the primary light source.
