Welsh floodplain studies: The nature of floodplain geometry

Journal of Hydrology, 1975
Abstract Field studies of floodplain geometry are necessary if the extent and patterns of inundation are to be related to discharge magnitudes. This is considered in relation to the floodplain geometry of parts of the three Welsh rivers — the Ystwyth, the Rheidol and the Tywi.

Physicochemical Conditions in the Floodplains

1997
The different water colors of Amazonian rivers are documented in the river names e.g., Rio Negro (black river), Rio Branco (white river), Rio Claro (clear river), Rio Verde (green river), and indicate differences in water quality. Sioli (1950) related water color to specific conditions in the catchment areas and recognized three main water types based ...

Floodplain sedimentation: Quantities, patterns and processes

Earth Surface Processes and Landforms, 1995
AbstractThis paper presents the result of measurements of floodplain sedimentation using sediment traps. The study was carried out on two embanked floodplains along the Rivers Rhine and Meuse in The Netherlands during a 3 day flood in January 1993. Raster maps of sediment accumulation were made by interpolating the measurements from the traps using ...

General Aspects of Floodplain Ecology with Special Reference to Amazonian Floodplains

1997
Floodplains are wetlands which oscillate between terrestrial and aquatic phases. This makes them alternately suitable for aquatic and terrestrial organisms, but makes utilization by humans difficult. For this reason, the extensive floodplains of Europe and North America were largely eliminated or strongly modified early on by human activities.
