Recovery of great blue herons (Ardea herodias) within the Chesapeake Bay
The Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.We surveyed great blue herons throughout the tidal reach of the Chesapeake Bay in 2013 and mapped 423 colonies supporting 15,094 pairs. The population has increased more than four‐fold since the mid‐1970s. Colony size has declined. Invasion of colonies by bald eagles may be driving a change in spatial structure.

Living on the edge: Habitat characteristics of northern myotis at the periphery of its distribution
The Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.Northern myotis selected tall trees with minimal decay, in patches with other roosting options. In our study area, these trees occurred in narrow bands within an agricultural matrix, differing from contiguous forest at the core of the species' distribution. Nevertheless, bats selected the tallest trees in the densest patches available.

Bauhinia naniflora: a new species of section Amaria (Cercidoideae: Leguminosae) from Colombia
Nordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.Bauhinia, the most species‐rich genus of Cercidoideae (Leguminosae), is pantropically distributed and includes four sections in the Americas. During an ongoing taxonomic revision of American Cercidoideae, a new species of Bauhinia sect. Amaria ser. Decandrae currently endemic to Colombia was identified and is here described as Bauhinia naniflorasp nov.
