Difficult encounters around "monkey cheeks": Farmers' interests and the design of flood retention areas in Thailand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Flood retention areas are being increasingly promoted for flood risk management. People living in these areas will accept them if their interests are taken into account.

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

Managing disaster preparedness for institution of higher learning: A study in Perlis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Unprecedented floods disaster that hit Johore, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan was due to abnormal weather conditions. Heavy rain which fall continuously non stop for between 3 to 4 days has raised the water level in some areas to a height of 15 feet ...

Coordinated Multi‐Component Gradient Engineering of Catalyst Layers for Advanced Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a continuous linear gradient catalyst layer design, a general strategy for improving membrane electrode assemblies across electrochemical devices. Fabricated via a dual‐nozzle spray coating method, the architecture controls the Pt/carbon ratio, ionomer content and ionomer type across the catalyst layer, enhancing proton conduction ...

Acute Malnutrition and Under-5 Mortality, Northeastern Part of India. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We assessed the prevalence of childhood acute malnutrition and under-five mortality rate (U5MR) in Darbhanga district, India, using a two-stage 49-cluster household survey. A total of 1379 households comprising 8473 people were interviewed.

Tuning the Electronic Structure and Spin State of Fe─N─C Catalysts Using an Axial Oxygen Ligand and Fe Clusters for High‐Efficiency Rechargeable Zinc–Air Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A FeN4─O/Clu@NC‐0.1Ac catalyst containing atomically‐dispersed FeN4─O sites (medium‐spin Fe2+) and Fe clusters delivered a half‐wave potential of 0.89 V for ORR and an overpotential of 330 mV at 10 mA cm−2 for OER in 0.1 m KOH. When the catalyst was used in a rechargeable Zn–air battery, a power density of 284.5 mW cm−2 was achieved with excellent ...

Overflow Discharges and Flooding Areas from Flood Hydrographs Routing in Arda River, Greece

open access: yesHydrology, 2018
Flooding is a natural disaster that damages infrastructure, properties, and may even cause loss of life. Major floods occur in the Arda river basin, which is shared between Greece and Bulgaria in Southeastern Europe.

A Tracer Diffusion Study of Diverse Photo‐Ionic Phenomena in Strontium Titanate

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two strong interfacial photo‐ionic effects are demonstrated for the model system SrTiO3 through the application of isotope exchange experiments: UV illumination is found to enhance the oxygen surface exchange coefficient by several orders of magnitude and to depress the surface space‐charge potential substantially.
