Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

A randomised controlled trial of pelvic floor muscle training for stages I and II pelvic organ prolapse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Forty-seven women participated in a pilot study for a multi-centre randomized controlled trial of the effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) for women with prolapse.

Stress-strain state of composite reinforced concrete slab elements under fire activity

open access: yesИнженерно-строительный журнал, 2017
Оne of the most topical issues (in construction) has become providing fire protection facilities for reinforced concrete. The Eurocode-4 and other recommendations have been applied for more than 10 years in European countries.

Development of raised access floor panel by optimisation techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Raised access floor panels currently have a chipboard core and are encapsulated within thin layer of galvanised steel. Two key problems with these raised access floor panels are that they are heavy because of the chipboard and expensive, as the cost of ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Pacific ocean floor affects tsunami propagation: part 1

open access: yes, 2012
This image shows features of the ocean floor depth (or bathymetry) from NOAA’s ETOPO-1 dataset. It shows the entire Western Pacific basin. Notice how abruptly the Japanese islands rise out of the ocean.

Evaluation methods of elastoplastic response of components to earthquake motions (Consideration of elastoplastic behaviour on the response of single-degree-of-freedom systems)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
A constant ductility response spectrum (CDRS) readily provides the yield strength of a single-degree-of-freedom (SDF) system necessary to limit the ductility imposed by a ground motion to a specified value.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Effects of the reduction or withdrawal of the vitamin premix from the diet on chicken performance and meat quality

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Poultry Science, 2012
The present study was carried out to examine the effect of vitamin premix reduction or withdrawal in finisher diet (29 to 42 days of age) on the performance and meat quality of chicks fed a wheat/barley based diet and reared on floor pens. A total of 504
