A Rare Case of Congenital Ranula in an Infant

open access: yesCase Reports in Otolaryngology, 2016
Ranula is a mucus extravasation cyst originating from the sublingual gland on the floor of the mouth. Congenital ranula is very rare. We report a case of a 4-month-old girl with a congenital ranula in the floor of mouth.

Electrostatically Reinforced Double Network Granular Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrostatically reinforced double network granular hydrogels (DNGHs) with cartilage‐like fracture energy are introduced. An empirical model predicts the composition‐dependent fracture energy based on dissipation zone size, contact area, and inter‐particle adhesion energy. Thanks to their granular structure and the inter‐particle attraction, the DNGHs

Conceptualising quality early childhood education: Learning from young children in Brazil and South Africa through creative and play‐based methods

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Early childhood has increasingly been acknowledged as a vital time for all children. Inclusive and quality education is part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with the further specification that all children have access to quality pre‐primary education.

AI‐Driven TENGs for Self‐Powered Smart Sensors and Intelligent Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) enable sustainable energy harvesting and self‐powered sensing but face challenges in material optimization, fabrication, and stability. Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) enhances TENG performance through machine learning, improving energy output, adaptability, and predictive maintenance.

Hapi: A Robust Pseudo-3D Calibration-Free WiFi-based Indoor Localization System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, we present Hapi, a novel system that uses off-the-shelf standard WiFi to provide pseudo-3D indoor localization. It estimates the user's floor and her 2D location on that floor. Hapi is calibration-free, only requiring the building's floorplans and its WiFi APs' installation location for deployment.

2D Floor Plan Segmentation Based on Down-sampling [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In recent years, floor plan segmentation has gained significant attention due to its wide range of applications in floor plan reconstruction and robotics. In this paper, we propose a novel 2D floor plan segmentation technique based on a down-sampling approach.

A Touch Enabled Hemodynamic and Metabolic Monitor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a touch‐based hybrid platform for simultaneous monitoring of vital signs and sweat metabolites. With a simple tri‐finger touch of 4–6 min, users can concurrently get to know their glucose, uric acid, cortisol levels from fingertip sweat, along with blood pressure and heart rate.

Polynomials involving the floor function [PDF]

open access: yesMath. Scand. 76 (1995), no. 2, 194--200, 1995
Some identities are presented that generalize the formula x^3 = 3x floor(x floor(x)) - 3 floor(x) floor(x floor(x)) + floor(x)^3 + 3 frac(x) frac(x floor(x)) + frac(x)^3 to a representation of the product x_0x_1 ... x_{n-1}.
