Understanding climate change impacts on biome and plant distributions in the Andes: Challenges and opportunities. [PDF]
Abstract Aim Climate change is expected to impact mountain biodiversity by shifting species ranges and the biomes they shape. The extent and regional variation in these impacts are still poorly understood, particularly in the highly biodiverse Andes. Regional syntheses of climate change impacts on vegetation are pivotal to identify and guide research ...

Extinction risk of the endemic vascular flora of Kauai, Hawaii, based on IUCN assessments. [PDF]
Abstract The International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN Red List) is the world's most comprehensive information source on the global conservation status of species. Governmental agencies and conservation organizations increasingly rely on IUCN Red List assessments to develop conservation policies and ...

Anthropogenic threats to evolutionary heritage of angiosperms in the Netherlands through an increase in high-competition environments. [PDF]
Abstract Present biodiversity comprises the evolutionary heritage of Earth's epochs. Lineages from particular epochs are often found in particular habitats, but whether current habitat decline threatens the heritage from particular epochs is unknown. We hypothesized that within a given region, humans threaten specifically habitats that harbor lineages ...

These results highlight the importance of seasonality and plant community composition in shaping different aspects of SDTF ECM fungal community structure and diversity as well as the potential for both the plant and fungal components of ECM symbioses to impact soil functioning across heterogenous SDTFs.

Forest disturbance and recovery in Peruvian Amazonia
This study used Landsat time series in combination with data from 1840 National Forest Inventory plots in Peruvian Amazonia to determine the impact of disturbance, environmental conditions and human use on forests' biomass and tree diversity. We found that the intensity of forest disturbance had a negative effect on the recovery of aboveground biomass ...

Abstract Aim The latitudinal biodiversity gradient is considered a first‐order biogeographical pattern for most taxonomic groups. Latitudinal variation in plant diversity is not always consistent, and this could be related to the particular characteristics of different forest types.

We applied an approach based on indicator plant species to estimate and map soil base cation concentration and its variability at Estación Biológica Quebrada Blanco. We found that soils in the study area are relatively cation‐poor, in a western Amazonian context, which probably translates into low primary productivity.
