New developments in the study of the microbiota of raw-milk, long-ripened cheeses by molecular methods: the case of Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2013
Microorganisms are an essential component of cheeses and play important roles during both cheese manufacture and ripening. Both starter and secondary flora modify the physical and chemical properties of cheese, contributing and reacting to changes that ...

Inhaling Eugenol Inhibits NAFLD by Activating the Hepatic Ectopic Olfactory Receptor Olfr544 and Modulating the Gut Microbiota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inhalable eugenol (EUG) from clove oil attenuates NAFLD by activating hepatic olfactory receptor Olfr544, triggering cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling to enhance lipolysis/oxidation. EUG concurrently restores gut microbiota, enriching probiotics (L. reuteri XR23/L. johnsonii XR25) and metabolites (IPA/5‐HIAA) that suppress lipogenesis.

Bacteremia due to anaerobic bacteria: epidemiology in a northern Bari Hospital, Italy

open access: yesMicrobiologia Medica, 2015
Background. Anaerobic bacteria are part of the commensal bacterial flora of skin and mucosae. Iatrogenic and pathological conditions altering this commensal relationship cause life-threatening diseases. Materials and Methods.

Model‐Guided Systematic Metabolic Engineering for Enhanced Spinosad Biosynthesis in Saccharopolyspora spinosa NHF132

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A genome‐scale model guided the systematic metabolic engineering of Saccharopolyspora spinosa, enabling a 5.5‐fold boost in the green bioinsecticide spinosad to 1.8 g L−1 and establishing an actinomycete framework for complex natural products overproduction.

Targeted antimicrobial therapy against Streptococcus mutans establishes protective non-cariogenic oral biofilms and reduces subsequent infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
AimDental biofilms are complex communities composed largely of harmless bacteria. Certain pathogenic species including Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) can become predominant when host factors such as dietary sucrose intake imbalance the biofilm ecology.

Marker Metabolite‐Based Multi‐Omics Analysis Identifies New Loci Controlling Thousand Seed Weight in Brassica Napus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Marker metabolite‐based multi‐omics (genome, transcriptome, and metabolome) analysis is conducted firstly to unravel the genetic basis of thousand seed weight (TSW) in Brassica napus. The released metabolite‐QTL‐gene network represents a valuable genetic resource, and the newly validated BnaTGA6 is a promising target for the improvement of TSW in ...
