Unusual respiratory bacterial flora in cystic fibrosis: microbiologic and clinical features
Current Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine, 2000Pulmonary infections continue to be a significant source of morbidity and mortality among patients with cystic fibrosis. Although our understanding of the pathogenesis and clinical consequences of pulmonary infections with Pseudomonas aeruginosa has increased greatly in recent years, very little is known about potentially emerging pathogens such as ...

85 women undergoing vacuum aspiration following miscarriage were studied. At the time of vacuum aspiration, immunofluorescent stainings for detection of C. trachomatis proved positive in 5.9% of the patients. Group 8 streptococci were isolated in 7.5%, coliforms in 3.5%, and Gardnerella vaginalis in 51% of the patients.

Mycotic flora in tonsils and adenoids
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1976The tonsils of 147 patients with chronic tonsillitis and the adenoids of 134 children with recurrent respiratory infections were cultured for fungal organisms and studied microscopically. A control group consisted of 68 healthy persons. Positive cultures were obtained in 64% of patients with chronic tonsillitis, in 21% of children treated with ...

Microbiological Studies of the Bacterial Flora of the External Auditory Canal in Children
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1981The aerobic and anaerobic bacterial flora of the external auditory canal (EAC) was studied in 72 children. Aerobes only were isolated in 58 patients (80%) and anaerobic bacteria only in 2 (3%). Mixed aerobic and anaerobic isolates were recovered in 12 cases (17%).

[Microbiologic flora in two different periods in intensive care units].
Minerva anestesiologica, 1990Bacterial examinations performed in two periods (Nov. 1985-Feb. 1986) and Nov. 1988-Feb. 1989) on materials taken from patients admitted into two similar Intensive Care Units (ICU) of the same hospital were evaluated. Excluding oropharyngeal swab cultures, which were performed only in the second period, Gram positive bacteria were 45.3% in 1985-1986 ...
