Phylogenetic systematics of Juncaceae

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 113, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Premise Juncaceae has needed taxonomic revision for some time. Specifically, the genus Juncus s.l. is known to be paraphyletic because five small southern‐hemisphere genera have been shown repeatedly to be nested within it. In 2022, a new classification was proposed, based on phylogenies built from one nuclear and three plastid regions ...

Antimycobacterial and Nitric Oxide Production Inhibitory Activities of Goyazensolide and Centratherin Isolated From Eremanthus crotonoides by High‐Speed Countercurrent Chromatography

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT In this study, bioassay‐guided fractionation of the ethanolic extract from Eremanthus crotonoides leaves enabled the isolation of two bioactive sesquiterpene lactones, centratherin and goyazensolide, which were evaluated for their antimycobacterial and anti‐inflammatory properties.

Neuroprotective and Renoprotective Potential of a Hydroethanolic Extract From the Aerial Parts of Mattiastrum paphlagonicum Bornm. (Boraginaceae)

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This study provides an analysis of the endemic plant Mattiastrum paphlagonicum Bornm.(Synonym Paracaryum paphlagonicum (Bornm.) R.R. Mill), focusing on enzyme activity, secondary metabolite content, antioxidant capacity (DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP), as well as phenolic and flavonoid levels, all within the context of a hydroethanolic extract prepared

Screening of Native Plant Species in the Artisanal Gold Mining Sites of Doko, Guinea: Perspectives for Phytoremediation

open access: yesCLEAN – Soil, Air, Water, Volume 54, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study focuses on phytoremediation in a gold mining‐contaminated area in Doko, Guinea. Plant, soil, and rhizospheric soil samples were collected and subjected to physicochemical analyses to quantify heavy metal content. Biological indicators: bioconcentration factor (BCF), translocation factor (TF), and biological accumulation coefficient (BAC ...

Gigantochloa falcihumeris (Poaceae, Bambusoideae), a New Paleotropical Woody Bamboo Species From Southwest Yunnan, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
We describe Gigantochloa falcihumeris, a new species of paleotropical woody bamboo discovered in Southwest Yunnan, China. It is distinguished by its culm leaf sheath shoulders that prominently rise into a distinctive ca. 1 cm long falcate point.
