Reduction of Fine Dust and Alleviation of Heat Island Effect: An Analysis of Cold Air Flow in Pohang City, South Korea

open access: yesLand
The urban heat island (UHI) effect poses a significant challenge for cities like Pohang, South Korea, which suffer from environmental pollution. Integrating a ventilation corridor into city planning can mitigate this issue.

Fractal Analysis of River Flow Fluctuations (with Erratum) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We use some fractal analysis methods to study river flow fluctuations. The result of the Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MF-DFA) shows that there are two crossover timescales at $s_{1\times}\sim12$ and $s_{2\times}\sim130$ months in the ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Construção e caracterização de um detector eletroquímico para análises em fluxo Construction and characterization of an electrochemical detector for flow analysis

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2009
The present work describes a low-cost electrochemical "wall-jet" detector for flow analysis. The electrolytic solution enters into the cell through a tube of stainless steel (200 to 300 µm i.d), reaching to the center of the working electrode ...

Flow field analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
The average mean wind speed integrated over a disk is shown to be extremely close to the mean value of wind speed which would be measured at the center of a disk for most geometries in which a WECS (Wind Energy Conversion System) would operate.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A Novel Dual Fuel Reaction Mechanism for Ignition in Natural Gas–Diesel Combustion

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In this study, a reaction mechanism is presented that is optimized for the simulation of the dual fuel combustion process using n-heptane and a mixture of methane/propane as surrogate fuels for diesel and natural gas, respectively.

Load flow studies on stand alone microgrid system in Ranau, Sabah [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents the power flow or load flow analysis of Ranau microgrid, a standalone microgrid in the district of Ranau,West Coast Division of Sabah. Power flow for IEEE 9 bus also performed and analyzed. Power flow is define as an important tool

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Computer program performs flow analysis through turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Computer program based on an equation for the velocity gradient along an arbitrary quasi- orthogonal analyzes flow through a turbomachine. The program obtains meridional solutions for a hub-to-shroud analysis and blade-to-blade analysis at the hub, mean,
