Reappraisal of Fall-Cone Flow Curve for Soil Plasticity Determinations

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2021
Abstract Several attempts have been made to devise alternate plastic limit (PL) determination methods, targeting higher degrees of repeatability and reproducibility. Among these, empirical-type correlations linking the plasticity index (PI) to the flow index (FI)—the slope magnitude of the flow curve—seem to be gaining increased ...

Laser‐Aided Flow Curve Determination in Hydraulic Bulging

steel research international, 2005
Hydraulic bulging can be used to characterise sheet material under biaxial stress conditions. A new measuring method applying laser light section for geometry analysis and a camera device for local strain determination enables a continuous on‐line calculation of flow curves.

Enhancing performances of SHPB for determination of flow curves

CIRP Annals, 2001
Abstract A compression test on a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) is the most common testing method adopted to determine material flow curves in a quite wide range of high strain rates. However, in most ordinary SHPB applications material rheology can only be investigated up to a rather low strain.

Determination of true flow curves from capillary rheometer data

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1968
AbstractThe evaluation of polymer melt viscosity versus shear rate has been customarily done by a time‐consuming graphical method, which corrects for non‐Newtonian behavior and pressure losses at flow transitions. It is shown by mathematical analysis that the flow data in terms of applied pressure and apparent shear rate can be treated by a ...

Determining cyclic flow curves using the in-plane torsion test

CIRP Annals, 2015
Abstract A new method of determining cyclic stress–strain curves for characterizing kinematic hardening of sheet materials is introduced utilizing the in-plane torsion test and optical strain measurement. The test enables the simultaneous recording of multiple cyclic stress–strain curves with different amplitudes of plastic strain at load reversal in

Flow curve determination on dc-MS and HPPMS CrAlN coatings

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2013
In this paper, a new method for determining flow curves of thin coatings is tested on the basis of chromium aluminum nitride coatings deposited by direct current and high power pulsed magnetron sputtering physical vapour deposition with a wide range of chemical composition. The flow curves have been determined using the nanoindentation technique with a
