Optimal Control of Flow-Induced Vibration of Pipeline

Dynamics and Control, 2001
The authors derive the state equations, combining known equations for the dynamic bending of pipes with the effect of axial flow of the fluid. The transverse action of the fluid due to bending of the pipe is combined with the Euler-Bernoulli beam equation. The authors assign identical boundary conditions to all pipe supports. The dimensionless equation

Flow-Induced Vibration of Anisotropic Cylindrical Shells

5th International Symposium on Fluid Structure Interaction, Aeroelasticity, and Flow Induced Vibration and Noise, 2002
This paper deals with the vibration analysis of anisotropic laminated cylindrical shells conveying fluid. We focus on the axi-symmetric (n=0) and lateral (beam-like, n=1) vibration modes of the anisotropic cylindrical shells. Particularly important in this study is to obtain the natural frequencies of the fluid-structure coupled system and also to ...

Experiences with Flow-Induced VibrationS

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1965
Difficulties encountered in U. S. Bureau of Reclamation structures because of flow-induced vibrations show that similar problems can occur elsewhere and that measures can be taken to avoid or control them. Vibrations interfered with operation and caused structural damage in several radial gates in canals because of control shifting front the flexible ...

Flow-induced Vibration and Instability of Carbon Nanotubes

2005 International Conference on MEMS,NANO and Smart Systems, 2006
This article deals with the effects of internal moving fluid on free vibration and structural instability of carbon nanotube (CNT) conveying fluid. CNT conveying fluid is an elastic hollow tube conveying fluid of mass density M and mean flow velocity V and it does not study how the wall-fluid interaction and the viscosity of fluid affect the mean flow ...

Flow Induced Vibration In Subsea Production Systems

SPE Russian Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2012
Abstract In the design of subsea flow systems, integrity and reliability are of paramount importance. As the equipment must be designed to operate at a large variety of conditions, inherent to the many processes, evaluation of the integrity is complex.

Flow Induced Vibrations of Pressure/Temperature Sensors

50th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2009
Flow-induced vibrations of sensors are traditionally predicted through use of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III Appendix N-1300. For an Euler―Bernoulli beam, this code provides engineers with a dynamic response prediction for a given sensor―fluid environment.

Flow-Induced Vibrations in Two-Phase Flow

Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology, 1991
Two-phase flow exists in many shell-and-tube heat exchangers and power generation components. The flowing fluid is a source of energy that can induce small-amplitude subcritical oscillations and large-amplitude dynamic instabilities. In fact, many practical system components have experienced excessive flow-induced vibrations.
