Flow-induced vibration in the compressible cavity flow [PDF]

open access: yesVibroengineering Procedia, 2017
The cavity plays an important role in the fuel-air mixing and combustion stability inside the hypersonic scramjet. However, the high levels of time-dependent loading resulting from the supersonic cavity flow can cause intense structural vibration even damage.

In-line flow-induced vibrations of a rotating cylinder [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 2015
The flow-induced vibrations of an elastically mounted circular cylinder, free to oscillate in the direction parallel to the current and subjected to a forced rotation about its axis, are investigated by means of two- and three-dimensional numerical simulations, at a Reynolds number equal to 100 based on the cylinder diameter and inflow velocity.

Experimental Investigation and Numerical Modeling of Two-Phase Flow Development and Flow-Induced Vibration of a Multi-Plane Subsea Jumper

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
As an essential component in the offshore oil and gas industry, subsea jumpers are likely to encounter the cyclic-induced stresses caused by the alternating movement of gas plugs and liquid slugs while transporting a multiphase mixture. The present study

Influence of Cross-Sectional Configuration on the Longitudinal Vortex Excitation of the Upstream Cylinder in Cruciform Two-Cylinder System

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2006
In earlier works by the present authors, it was shown that a large cross-flow excitation is induced to a circular cylinder by setting another cylinder downstream in a cruciform arrangement with a certain gap between them, caused by longitudinal vortices ...

Flow Induced Vibrations in Engineering Systems and the Control of Flow Induced Vibrations. Chaotic Vibration in Poppet Valve Circuit.

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series C, 1995
In the previous paper we pointed out that chaotic vibrations can occur in poppet valve circuits due to nonlinearities. The chaotic motions in the poppet valve circuits include (a) period-doubling-type chaos, (b) Lorenz-type chaos and (c) intermittent-type chaos. In this paper, period-doubling-type chaos has been investigated in detail.
