Liquefaction flow slide at horizontal ground

2005
A liquefaction flow slide is an instability in loosely packed saturated sand or silt after liquefaction under monotonic loading. The conditions for such a flow slide are discussed. The relevance of these conditions is illustrated by application to slope failure.

Liquefaction flow behavior of Guamo sand

2015
In soil mechanics there are many unknowns about the behavior of materials and even more great uncertainty generated sands, due to its gradation and shape of the grains is sometimes difficult to know their behavior and especially when trying to study by tests in laboratory.

Parameters describing flow liquefaction of soils

2005
The paper presents the results of comprehensive laboratory test programme carried out on various soils. Monotonic undrained triaxial tests were executed on specimens subjected to isotropic and anisotropic consolidation. Some parameters based on mean effective stress values at specific stages of a test were used for the sake of quantitative analysis of ...

Seabed instability due to flow liquefaction in the Fraser River delta

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1997
Abstract: Liquefaction failures of loose sand deposits can be a major concern for the stability of coastal structures. an investigation to evaluate the possible contributions of different triggering mechanisms in a major liquefaction failure that occurred in 1985 at the mouth of the Main Channel of the Fraser River has been carried out using steady ...

Onset Condition for Liquefaction and Consequent Flow

1996
Abstract In the preceding chapters, laboratory testing on reconstituted samples has been recognized as a useful tool for making the most conservative estimate of the residual strength of in situ sands. A similar argument may be developed as to the cyclic strength controlling the triggering of liquefaction. The relationship between the

Undrained shear strength for liquefaction flow failure analysis

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1995
An important factor in evaluating the stability of hydraulic fills against flow sliding is the undrained steady-state strength mobilized in the field. This paper proposes an empirical relationship between three factors: the undrained strength back-calculated from fills that failed by flow sliding, equivalent clean sand normalized blow-count values, and

Kinetics of donor-vehicle coal liquefaction in a flow reactor

Fuel, 1979
Abstract Development of the Exxon Donor Solvent process has necessitated studies to more clearly define the influence of liquefaction conditions on coal conversion. Process studies were conducted in a 22.7 kg/day (fifty-pound-per-day) integrated pilot plant. Illinois No.

Prediction of flow liquefaction instability of clean and silty sands

Acta Geotechnica, 2015
Adding a small amount of non-plastic silt to clean sands may lead to dramatic loss of shear strength and a noteworthy tendency toward contraction when the mechanical behavior of the mixture is compared with that of the clean host sand. Thus, simulation of the behavior of silty sands with varying fines content is still a challenging subject in ...

An Entropy Flow Optimization Technique for Helium Liquefaction Cycles

1984
Several potential applications of superconducting technology require large size refrigerators/liquefiers for cooling. The capital cost of such large size refrigerators is small compared with the operating cost. Therefore there is an emphatic need for highly efficient refrigerators.
