Junction losses in open channel flows

Water Resources Research, 1979
The energy balance of spatially varied flows at the junction of a rectangular open channel and a side channel is investigated by a one‐dimensional flow analysis of experimental data obtained from a laboratory channel system. By means of a large control volume enclosing the neighborhood of the junction and having the control surface located at the cross

Exit loss in viscous tube flow

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1986
Numerous errors abound in the perception and calculation of gas flow in short tubes. This paper will develop modified equations for short-tube viscous flow in circular tubes with either a choked or a nonchoked exit. Several practical examples will be presented for vacuum component and system analysis.

Exit Flows and Hydraulic Losses

2016
In order to calculate and enhance the system efficiency of a Pelton turbine, it is essential to know which hydraulic and mechanical losses exist and how they can be estimated and above all successfully reduced. The efficiency of a Pelton turbine has so far been almost exclusively determined through measurements which are either restricted to ...

Flow losses in dry sandy channels

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1961
Statistically significant losses of water are shown to occur in the Canadian River near Oklahoma City. Since classical routing methods are based upon the principle of no volume loss, Kohler routing templates which use K and lag have been modified to create losses and yet prevent rounding of the crest of the outflow hydrograph.

Expansion Losses in Two-Phase Flow

Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1961
Four methods are discussed for predicting the change of static pressure across an abrupt expansion for the flow of liquid vapor mixtures. Design equations are given and recommendatlons are made for boiling reactor calculations. (auth)

Wave Type Flow at Abrupt Drop: Flow Geometry and Energy Loss

1992
This paper investigates the type of hydraulic jump occurring in the event of a drop known as Wmax-jump, and especially investigates the evaluation of piezoraetric head at the step and energy losses. Some aspects characteristic of wave profiles have also been studied.

Head Loss of Incompressible Viscous Flow

2018
Actual fluids have different flow regimes due to viscosity. The regimes include laminar flow and turbulent flow. The regimes, viscosity, and pipe wall surface have influence on flow resistance, which leads to head loss for fluids flow. In this chapter, we will firstly introduce types of head loss (friction loss and minor head loss) and two regimes of ...
