Discharge Electrode Degradation in Dry Electrostatic Precipitator Cleaning of Exhaust Gases from Industrial Solid Waste Incinerators

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The electrodes of industrial electrostatic precipitators degrade as a result of two phenomena: corrosion and erosion. The first is chemical degradation by highly reactive compounds formed during combustion, in particular, during the incineration of ...

Segregation of Flowing Blood: Mathematical Description [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena, 2011
Blood rheology is completely determined by its major corpuscles which are erythro- cytes, or red blood cells (RBCs). That is why understanding and correct mathematical description of RBCs behavior in blood is a critical step in modelling the blood dynamics.

Evaluation Strategies of Hil48 Yield Criterion in Application: Toward Sufficient and Necessary Conditions for Prediction of Plastic Anisotropy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the intrinsic relationships and applicability of Hill48 yield criterion. The applicability and error evaluation conditions for Hill48 are established based on specific experimental data. A parameter calibration strategy for N‐value based on error minimization is proposed, and the predictive accuracy is ...

Linking Heat Treatment to Plastic Deformation in Pearlitic Steels Through Mesoscale Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Surface wear on rail and wheel steels results from surface deformation during use. This research uses mathematical models to forecast the plastic behavior of pearlitic steels, connected to the microstructure formed during heat treatment. While the cooling rate impacts the steels’ strength, the size of prior austenite grains and blocks does not ...

Thermally Induced Gelling Systems Based on Patchy Polymeric Micelles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
A novel strategy to design thermally induced gelling systems with tunable material properties is reported. Polymeric mixed‐shell micelles displaying multiple thermosensitive patchy domains formed hydrogels by assembling into well‐entangled worm‐like network structures upon heating to body temperature. The patchy micelle design significantly affects the

Influence of Layering and Curie Temperature Uncertainty on the Performance of Multilayer Active Magnetic Regenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how manufacturing uncertainties in Curie temperatures (1.5–2°C) affect multilayer active magnetic regenerators (AMR). While increasing the number of magnetocaloric layers boosts cooling power, performance degrades due to temperature variations.
