Resource allocation and accountability keep reappearing on every list of requirements for the Internet architecture. The reason we never resolve these issues is a broken idea of what the problem is. The applied research and standards communities are using completely unrealistic and impractical fairness criteria.

Geriatric-patient flow-rate modelling
Mathematical Medicine and Biology, 1996We consider the application of a three-compartment mathematical model using difference equations in discrete time to model the flow of patients through departments of geriatric medicine. It has been shown empirically that the time spent in hospital since admission may be described by a two-term mixed-exponential distribution.

Glycosaminoglycans and Urine Flow Rate
Nephron, 1989The value of glycosaminoglycans determination in urine has been challenged because the relation between the glycosaminoglycans concentration and other signs of kidney damage is a matter of controversy. It is quite possible that the observed discrepancies could be due to the influence of the urine flow rate, the urine concentration and the time of day ...

Urinary flow rates in hypospadias
British Journal of Plastic Surgery, 1997Uroflowmetry has been performed on 140 occasions in 90 patients with hypospadias before and after reconstructive surgery. Children with hypospadias tend to have a lower maximum urinary flow rate for volume voided than the general population, lying around the population 5th centile.

Bovine tear flow rates were determined by cannulation of the nasolachrymal duct and the use of a suction pump. The mean flow rate obtained from 327 collection periods of 30 minutes using 11 animals was 32·6 ± 30·7 μ1 per minute (sd).

Process applications invariably involve the measurement of volume or mass flow rate of a fluid—gas (such as air) or liquid (such as water). Volume flow rate is expressed in units of \(m^3/s\), \(m^3/h\), l/min, l/s or ml/s. The magnitude of the flow rate will decide the unit that is appropriate.

Measurement of urinary flow rate
Urology, 1983The various methods for measuring urinary flow rate from the first attempt by Rehfisch in 1897 to current techniques are described. The benefits or deficiencies of each method are considered, and it is concluded that while some of the more technically sophisticated pieces of equipment are necessary for the accurate determination of flow rates in the ...

Unsteady magnetohydrodynamic flow with variable flow rate
1985The problem of unsteady magnetohydrodynamic channel flow due to an arbitrarily time-varying flow rate has been solved for a fluid of anisotropic electrical conductivity. The velocity and wall shear stress have been calculated for a given flow rate. It is found that the effect of exponential flow rate is to flatten the velocity profiles and to reduce ...

Interpretation of Urinary Flow Rates
Urologic Clinics of North America, 1990The uroflow examination is the most accurate, physiologic, and noninvasive method of assessing bladder outflow obstruction. The examiner must be aware of the errors that may arise from problems inherent in the uroflowmeter, in the patient (such as psychological inhibition), or in bladder physiology (such as the influence of intravesical volume ...
