A new flow regime in a Taylor–Couette flow
Physics of Fluids, 1998In this Brief Communication, we report a new finding on a Taylor–Couette flow in which the outer cylinder is stationary and the inner cylinder is accelerated linearly from rest to a desired speed. The results show that when the acceleration (dRe/dt) is higher than a critical value of about 2.2 s−1, there exists a new flow regime in which the flow ...

The flow regimes and the pressure-flow relationship in the canine urethra
Neurourology and Urodynamics, 1999Classical fluid dynamics predicts that the pressure difference Deltap between any two points along a fully developed, viscous flow stream is linearly proportional to the flow rate Q (the Poiseuille relation). However, the passive urethral resistance relationship (PURR) widely used in modern urodynamics describes the pressure difference Deltap between ...

ABSTRACTThe Bingham model has been suggested for the rheological behaviour of debris flow. Velocity plotted against yield strength uniquely defines turbulent and laminar flow in published experimental data on flow of Bingham materials. These regimes are not defined by a unique value of the Bingham number even though it includes both of the critical ...

Analysis of a considerable body of new data, based upon flow-visualization experiments, reveals a simple criterion for the occurrence of vortex breakdown at a fixed location in a tube: Re B ∼ Ω-3R−1, where Ω is the circulation number, R the ratio of the radial to tangential velocities in the inflow region, and Re B the pipe ...

Flow Regime Transition Criteria
2007This chapter presents a review of the existing methods for identification of flow patterns in two-phase flow in pools, adiabatic and nonadiabatic channels, rod bundles and porous structures. An attempt is made to extend this information to be applicable in three-phase flow modeling. In addition the influence of the dynamic fragmentation and coalescence

A regime of flow is defined as the transition from laminar to turbulent flow which is an inception of turbulence in the flow field. Knowledge of flow regime provides useful information for quantitative description of flow and its analysis. It also serves as the lower limit of sediment transport.

Turbulence in pneumatic flow focusing and flow blurring regimes
Physical Review E, 2008An important paradigm in pneumatic atomization is the production of droplet sizes in the micron and submicron range, while achieving high energy efficiency by means of simple atomizer designs. Flow focusing (FF) and flow blurring (FB) [A. M. Gañán-Calvo, Appl. Phys. Lett.86, 214101 (2005).] are advancements toward this goal.
