Flow regime identification in gas-liquid flow and three-phase fluidized beds

Chemical Engineering Science, 1997
Abstract Experiments were carried out in an 82.6 mm diameter by 2 m high vertical column with air and water as the gas and liquid phases. Three different types of solid particles (1.5 mm glass beads, 4.5 mm glass beads and 1.2 mm steel shot) were employed to investigate the effects of particle size and density on the flow regime transitions ...

Flow regime identification methodology with neural networks and two-phase flow models

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2001
Vertical two-phase flows often need to be categorized into flow regimes. In each flow regime, flow conditions share similar geometric and hydrodynamic characteristics. Previously, flow regime identification was carried out by flow visualization or instrumental indicators.

Flow Regime Identification by a Self-Organising Neural Network

1993
One of the prerequisites of effective operation of multiphase flow systems is the need to identify flow regimes. A number of flow regime classification models have been reported in the literature based on the subjective and ambiguous interpretation of visual observations.

Intelligent identification system of flow regime of oil–gas–water multiphase flow

International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 2001
Abstract Instantaneous differential pressure signals of oil–gas–water multiphase flow in a horizontal pipe are measured with a piezo-resistance differential pressure transducer with fast response. The signals are denoised by using wavelet theory and then the characteristic vectors of various flow regimes are obtained from the denoised differential ...

Neural-Net Identification of Flow Regime With Band Spectra of Flow-Generated Sound

SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering, 1999
SummaryMultiphase production log interpretation requires that the flow regime along hole in the wellbore is known. Flow regime is the cased-hole analog of lithology. Knowledge of the flow regime will help to interpret tool signals, will help to evaluate the flow rate on a per phase basis, and will reduce post-processing load.

Flow Regime Identification of Two Phase Flow based on Image Processing Techniques

2019 IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Techniques in Control, Optimization and Signal Processing (INCOS), 2019
Bubble column reactors are common in many industries such as biochemical, energy generation, process industry etc. The performance of the reactor is dependent on the flow regime inside the column. Identification of the flow regimes inside the reactor is significant and a challenging task.

Impedance-Based Void Fraction Measurement and Flow Regime Identification in Microchannel Flows

ASME 2011 Pacific Rim Technical Conference and Exhibition on Packaging and Integration of Electronic and Photonic Systems, MEMS and NEMS: Volume 2, 2011
Electrical impedance of a two-phase mixture is a function of void fraction and phase distribution. The difference in the electrical conductance and permittivity of the two phases can be exploited to measure electrical impedance for obtaining void fraction and flow regime characteristics.

Local flow regime identification for boiling two-phase flow by BP neural networks approach

2010 Sixth International Conference on Natural Computation, 2010
The pressure fluctuation signals of the boiling two-phase flow in a upward tube were analyzed by statistical and fractal theory. Five parameters, i. e. the heat flux, standard deviation, Hurst index, correlation dimension and Kolmogorov entropy were obtained and used as the characteristic vector of BP neural network.

Identification of the Spouted Bed Flow Regime by Simulation and Experimental Data

Materials Science Forum, 2008
The particle circulation rate and gas–solid contacting efficiency are important parameters for the project of spouted beds, applied in many industrial processes. Due to the restrictions found in the identification of flow regimes through visual observation, new techniques have been developed to obtain a better gas and particle dynamics description ...

Identification and characteristics of different flow regimes in a circulating fluidized bed

Powder Technology, 2005
A series of experiments was conducted in a 0.3-m diameter circulating fluidized bed (CFB) cold model to evaluate the operating flow regimes and their transitions. A single unambiguous experimental method was developed to identify the transitions between CFB operating regimes.
