Scheduling in Flow and Open Shops

1996
Consider scheduling tasks on dedicated processors or machines. We assume that tasks belong to a set of n jobs, each of which is characterized by the same machine sequence. For convenience, let us assume that any two consecutive tasks of the same job are to be processed on different machines.

Alternative Formulations of a Flow-shop Scheduling Problem

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 1989
This paper presents an alternative approach to a model of \textit{W. J. Selen} and \textit{D. D. Hott} [ibid. 37, No.12, 1121-1128 (1986; Zbl 0646.90041)] to formulate a problem of sequencing N jobs on M machines in a standard flow-shop. The objectives of the model are to minimize makespan and flow-time. The new formulation involves substantially fewer

Scheduling Multiprocessor Flow Shops

1994
We address the well-known problem of scheduling multiprocessor flow shops. For a given k-stage processing facility, where at each stage one or more identical machines are available, and a given collection of independent jobs, each comprising k tasks to be processed in order, one per stage, find a schedule that minimizes the makespan.

A Heuristic Search Algorithm for Flow-Shop Scheduling.

Informatica (Slovenia), 2008
This article describes the development of a new intelligent heuristic search algorithm (IHSA*) which guarantees an optimal solution for flow-shop problems with an arbitrary number of jobs and machinesprovided the job sequence is constrained to be the same on each machine.
