A semiflexible alternating copolymer chain adsorption on a flat and a fluctuating surface

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2010
A lattice model of a directed self-avoiding walk is used to investigate adsorption properties of a semiflexible alternating copolymer chain on an impenetrable flat and fluctuating surface in two (square, hexagonal and rectangular lattice) and three dimensions (cubic lattice).

Relativistic theory of fluctuating electromagnetic slowing down of neutral spherical particles moving in close vicinity to a flat surface

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2002
Abstract For the first time, a general relativistic theory is developed of electromagnetic fluctuation forces (both conservative and dissipative) between a moving neutral spherical particle and a flat surface. The particle is assumed to be polarizable (nonmagnetic), the surface is characterized by frequency-dependent dielectric and magnetic ...

The fluctuational electromagnetic interaction of a relativistic particle with a flat surface

Technical Physics Letters, 2003
General relationships between the fluctuational electromagnetic field energy, tangential force, and heating rate of a relativistic neutral particle moving near a flat surface are established for the first time. Within the framework of the fluctuational electrodynamics, closed expressions describing these quantities are obtained for arbitrary ...

Dynamic fluctuation electromagnetic interaction of a nonrelativistic quadrupole particle with a flat surface

Physics of the Solid State, 2002
Within the framework of the nonrelativistic fluctuation electromagnetic theory, relationships for the quadrupole-quadrupole contribution to the tangential and normal components of the force acting on a particle moving parallel to the polarizing surface are derived for the first time.

Free Convection Boundary Layer on a Flat Plate due to Small Fluctuations in Surface Temperature

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1979
AbstractUsing the method of matched asymptotic expansions the unsteady free convection boundary layer flow past a vertical flat plate is obtained when the plate temperature oscillates about a non‐zero mean. It is found that when the Prandtl number is not unity, the solution far downstream reveals a double boundary layer, the inner layer being a shear ...

The relativistic theory of fluctuation electromagnetic interactions of moving neutral particles with a flat surface

Physics of the Solid State, 2003
The problem concerning the fluctuation electromagnetic interaction of a neutral particle moving parallel to the boundary of a semi-infinite homogeneous isotropic medium characterized by a permittivity and permeability dependent on the frequency is considered in terms of the fluctuation electrodynamic theory within the relativistic formalism.

Fluctuational-electromagnetic interaction between a neutral particle and a flat surface in the case of perpendicular motion

Technical Physics Letters, 2004
Formulas for the rate of heating and the conservative and dissipative forces of interaction between a neutral spherical particle and the surface of a homogeneous semi-infinite polarizable medium are obtained for the first time in a nonrelativistic approximation of the fluctuational electromagnetic field theory for a particle moving in vacuum ...

The fluctuational electromagnetic interaction of moving neutral atoms with a flat surface: An account of the spatial dispersion effects

Technical Physics Letters, 2001
General formulas for the fluctuational electromagnetic forces acting upon a neutral atom moving with a nonrelativistic velocity parallel to a flat surface were derived using the mirror reflection image model and a fluctuational-dissipative interaction formalism developed previously. The obtained formulas take into account the spatial dispersion effects

Influence of Fluctuating Surface Temperature and Concentration on Natural Convection Flow from a Vertical Flat Plate

ZAMM, 2001
Summary: We use a linearized theory to investigate how a free double-diffusive boundary layer flow is affected by small amplitude temporal variations in the surface temperature and species concentration. The mean temperature and mean species concentration are assumed to vary as a power \(n\) of the distance measured from the leading edge.
