Summary: We use a linearized theory to investigate how a free double-diffusive boundary layer flow is affected by small amplitude temporal variations in the surface temperature and species concentration. The mean temperature and mean species concentration are assumed to vary as a power \(n\) of the distance measured from the leading edge.

Abstract For the first time, a general relativistic theory is developed of electromagnetic fluctuation forces (both conservative and dissipative) between a moving neutral spherical particle and a flat surface. The particle is assumed to be polarizable (nonmagnetic), the surface is characterized by frequency-dependent dielectric and magnetic ...

A semiflexible alternating copolymer chain adsorption on a flat and a fluctuating surface
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2010A lattice model of a directed self-avoiding walk is used to investigate adsorption properties of a semiflexible alternating copolymer chain on an impenetrable flat and fluctuating surface in two (square, hexagonal and rectangular lattice) and three dimensions (cubic lattice).

General formulas for the fluctuational electromagnetic forces acting upon a neutral atom moving with a nonrelativistic velocity parallel to a flat surface were derived using the mirror reflection image model and a fluctuational-dissipative interaction formalism developed previously. The obtained formulas take into account the spatial dispersion effects

A relationship between the dissipation of the fluctuational electromagnetic field energy, tangential (decelerating) force, and heating rate of a neutral particle moving parallel to a plane polarizable surface is considered for the first time in a nonrelativistic approximation.

Skin friction and surface temperature of an insulated flat plate fixed in a fluctuating stream
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1971The time-mean skin friction of the laminar boundary layer on a flat plate which is fixed at zero incidence in a fluctuating stream is investigated analytically. Flow oscillation amplitude outside the boundary layer is assumed constant along the surface.

The effect of a thin adsorbed film on the fluctuational electromagnetic tangential force of interaction between a moving nanoparticle and a flat solid surface was theoretically studied for the first time in a nonrela- tivistic approximation. Particular calculations were performed for a metal film on a dielectric and for a dielectric film on a metal. In

Abstract Unsteady free convective boundary layer flow, over a semi-infinite horizontal plate is analysed when the plate temperature oscillates with a non-zero mean, the free stream being at rest. The method of matched asymptotic expansions is employed to solve the singular perturbation problem revealing the existence of four distinct oscillating ...
