Fluctuation-dissipation theorem and fundamental photon commutation relations in lossy nanostructures using quasinormal modes

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
We provide theory and formal insight on the Green function quantization method for absorptive and dispersive spatial-inhomogeneous media in the context of dielectric media.

Thermal fluctuation field for current-induced domain wall motion

open access: yes, 2010
Current-induced domain wall motion in magnetic nanowires is affected by thermal fluctuation. In order to account for this effect, the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation includes a thermal fluctuation field and literature often utilizes the fluctuation ...

Rethinking Climate Change on the Role of Human Power Generation, Alternative Perspectives, Potential Solutions, and a Plea for Action

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
All energy matters Let us broaden the discussion on solutions to climate change. Greenhouse gases have upset the delicate equilibrium of the Earth's energy balance. Consequently, all sources of heat affect the temperature of the Earth. Although the amount of additional heat generated by humans is a fraction of that produced by the sun, it is generated ...

Nested Selves: Self‐Organization and Shared Markov Blankets in Prenatal Development in Humans

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract The immune system is a central component of organismic function in humans. This paper addresses self‐organization of biological systems in relation to—and nested within—other biological systems in pregnancy. Pregnancy constitutes a fundamental state for human embodiment and a key step in the evolution and conservation of our species. While not

Fluctuation-Dissipation relations far from Equilibrium

open access: yes, 2007
In this Article we review some recent progresses in the field of non-equilibrium linear response theory. We show how a generalization of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem can be derived for Markov processes, and discuss the Cugliandolo-Kurchan \cite ...

Agent‐Based Computational Modeling of the Stochastic Dynamic Behavior of Actin Filaments Recapitulates the Homeostatic Cortical Array in Plant Epidermal Cells

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The homeostatic cortical actin array in plant cells plays important roles in fundamental processes, including intracellular transport, secretion, cell expansion, and cytoplasmic streaming. In response to diverse chemical and mechanical signals, the cortical array can remodel within minutes to assume new configurations or altered filament ...

Effective temperatures of a heated Brownian particle

open access: yes, 2011
We investigate various possible definitions of an effective temperature for a particularly simple nonequilibrium stationary system, namely a heated Brownian particle suspended in a fluid.

KMO-Langevin Equation and Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem (I) [PDF]

open access: yesHokkaido Mathematical Journal, 1986
Let R be any fixed correlation function and A a differentiable stationary curve in a Hilbert space with R as its covariance function. A holomorphic function [R] is defined on \(C^+\) by \[ [R](\xi)=\frac{1}{2\pi}\int^{\infty}_{0}e^{i\xi t}R(t)dt. \] In the first half of the paper the author has obtained a complete structure of the function [R] by ...

Self‐Similar Blowup for the Cubic Schrödinger Equation

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We give a rigorous proof for the existence of a finite‐energy, self‐similar solution to the focusing cubic Schrödinger equation in three spatial dimensions. The proof is computer‐assisted and relies on a fixed point argument that shows the existence of a solution in the vicinity of a numerically constructed approximation.

Nonequilibrium Brownian motion beyond the effective temperature.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The condition of thermal equilibrium simplifies the theoretical treatment of fluctuations as found in the celebrated Einstein's relation between mobility and diffusivity for Brownian motion.
