Fluctuation-optimization theorem

open access: yes
A fluctuation theorem relating the work to its optimal average work is presented. The function mediating the relation is increasing and convex, and depends on the switching time $τ$, driving strength $δλ/λ_0$, and protocol $g(t)$. The result is corroborated by an example of an overdamped white noise Brownian motion subjected to a moving laser harmonic ...

How cold is too cold? A theoretical analysis of the optimal trigger for index insurance for frost damage to crops

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Crop insurance is undoubtedly an extremely valuable element in protecting agricultural businesses, but in many cases standard indemnity‐based products have had very low uptake due to high transaction costs elevating premiums to unaffordable levels.

Accounting for animal health in efficiency analysis: An application to Swedish dairy farms

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Poor animal health is a central concern in modern livestock production. Despite the necessity to incorporate animal health in efficiency analysis, the theoretical and empirical developments are limited on this subject. This article appropriately characterizes the axiomatic properties of animal health within a production framework.

Characterization and Modeling of Industrial Phosphoric Acids' Rheological Behavior: Impact of Magnesium Monoxide on Viscosity

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the rheological behavior of industrial phosphoric acids (H3PO4) produced at the JORF–LASFAR phosphoric plant in Morocco, with P2O5 concentrations of 18%, 29%, 42%, and 54%. Rheological measurements were performed using a rotary cylinder rheometer over a shear rate range of 1–1000 s−1.

Complexity Analysis of Bubble Plumes in Power Law Fluids Based on Chaos Theory

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In order to reveal the complexity of the internal flow of bubble plume in power law fluid, the flow characteristics and chaotic characteristics of plume are studied by experiment and theory. The chaotic characteristic parameters (correlation dimension D, K entropy, and Lyapunov exponent λ) of gas velocity under different superficial gas ...

Imaging and Linking Spatial Magnetic Nanoparticle Distribution to Microbead Torques Using Soft X‐Ray Laminography

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
Nanoscale 3D imaging of superparamagnetic microbeads via soft X‐ray laminography reveals the structural origin of the observed torques in cell movement experiments. These microbeads are found to have an uneven distribution of magnetic magnetite nanoparticles.

Work Versus Force: Simultaneous Processes for Describing Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving a unified description of interactions remains an open challenge in theoretical physics, which currently describes four fundamental forces. This situation may be viewed differently when interactions are formulated in terms of processes (work as actio) rather than forces (force as actio), not only at the macroscopic level but also at ...
