Cleaning Data Helps Clean the Air [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this project, students use a real-world, complex database and experience firsthand the consequences of inadequate data modeling. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency created the database as part of a multimillion dollar data collection effort ...

Advancements in Biochar Functionalization for Sustainable Adsorption of Sulfur‐Containing Gaseous Pollutants

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2025.
The study highlights the physical, chemical, biological, and advanced and hybrid biochar functionalization techniques and the outcomes of recent studies on the deployment of modified biochar for the removal of sulfur‐containing gaseous pollutants are reviewed. Functionalized biochar is an eco‐friendly, and effective material for adsorption of H2S, SO2,

Fuel quality/processing study. Volume 4: On site processing studies [PDF]

open access: yes
Fuel treated at the turbine and the turbine exhaust gas processed at the turbine site are studied. Fuel treatments protect the turbine from contaminants or impurities either in the upgrading fuel as produced or picked up by the fuel during normal ...

STRONTIUM ISOTOPE SYSTEMATICS AND GEOCHEMISTRY OF COAL UTILIZATION BY-PRODUCTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Coal combustion for energy generation creates large quantities of solid coal utilization by-products (CUB), including fly ash, bottom ash, and flue gas desulfurization products. These materials are either used in environmental and industrial applications

Increasing Contribution of Condensable Particulate Matter From Stationary Combustion Sources Under Strict Control Standards in China

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 17, 16 September 2025.
Abstract China's implementation of stringent emission control measures during 2014–2020 has effectively reduced filterable particulate matter (FPM) emissions from stationary combustion sources, while increasing the contribution of condensable particulate matter (CPM) to total PM emissions.

Unveiling the Remarkable Catalytic Performance of Al2O3@Cu‐Ce Core–Shell Nanofiber Catalyst for Carbonyl Sulfide Hydrolysis at Low Temperature

open access: yesEcoEnergy, Volume 3, Issue 3, September 2025.
In this study, a series of Al‐based core–shell nanofiber catalysts were synthesized and employed for the catalytic hydrolysis of COS. Al2O3@Cu‐Ce demonstrated a 100% COS removal rate at a gas hourly space velocity of 15 000 h−1 at 70°C. Ov‐CeO2 (111) promotes the dissociation of H2O and the generation of ‐SH groups. The hydrolysis process of COS occurs

Flue gas desulfurization by rotating beds

open access: yes, 1992
The operating and mass transfer characteristics of rotating foam metal beds were studied to determine the potential for flue gas desulfurization. This is a final technical report on the work supported by DOE [number sign]FG22-87-PC79924. The report is divided into two sections, Part 1 deals primarily with the operating characteristics of rotating beds,

Cascade Promotion of Gas Separation Performances in CMS Membranes: MOFs With Functional Groups and Loaded Noble Metals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 32, August 28, 2025.
Novel mixed‐matrix carbon molecular sieve (MMCMS) membranes are fabricated via employing palladium‐doped carboxyl‐functionalized UiO‐66 (Pd/UiO66‐COOH)/polyimide MMM as precursor. The synergistic effect of decarboxylation‐induced thermally cross‐linking and catalytic graphitization of Pd promoted the formation of more ordered Langmuir domains, thereby ...

Activated Carbon for Flue Gas Desulfurization Process

open access: yesThe Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, Japan, 1971
