Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Fully decoupled time-marching schemes for incompressible fluid/thin-walled structure interaction

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceIn this paper we introduce a class of fully decoupled time-marching schemes (velocity-pressure-displacement splitting) for the coupling of an incompressible fluid with a thin-walled elastic or viscoelastic structure.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Can we avoid high coupling?

open access: yes, 2011
It is considered good software design practice to organize source code into modules and to favour within-module connections (cohesion) over between-module connections (coupling), leading to the oft-repeated maxim "low coupling/high cohesion".

Role of Fluid Interia in Porous Material Subject to Dynamics Loadings

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 1992
The paper is aimed at analysing the dynamical properties of fluid-filled porous media in which the inertial coupling effect (due to the complexity of the pore structure) is taken into consideration.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Two-way fluid-structure coupling analysis of liquid lead-bismuth main coolant pump based on three different blade materials

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
The main coolant pump (MCP) operates in a high-temperature, high-flow, and corrosive liquid heavy metal environment, and structure analysis have complicated fluid-structure coupling problems. In order to study the coupling characteristics between the MCP

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
