Approximate Controllability of Second-Grade Fluids [PDF]
This paper deals with the controllability of the second grade fluids, a class of non-Newtonian of differentiel type, on a two-dimensional torus. Using the method of Agrachev-Sarychev [1], [2] and of Sirikyan [26], we prove that the system of second grade fluids is approximately controllable by a finite-dimensional control force.

Algorithms and error bounds for multivariate piecewise constant approximation [PDF]
We review the surprisingly rich theory of approximation of functions of many vari- ables by piecewise constants. This covers for example the Sobolev-Poincar´e inequalities, parts of the theory of nonlinear approximation, Haar wavelets and tree ...

We propose a simple two-step approximation for the radial distribution function of a one-component two-dimensional Yukawa fluid. This approximation is specified by the key parameters of the system: coupling parameter and screening parameter. On the basis

Approximation of Time-Dependent Viscoelastic Fluid Flow: SUPG Approximation [PDF]
Summary: We consider the numerical approximation to the time-dependent viscoelasticity equations with an Oldroyd B constitutive equation. The approximation is stabilized by using a streamline upwind Petrov-Galerkin (SUPG) approximation for the constitutive equation. We analyze both the semidiscrete and fully discrete numerical approximations.

Approximate solution to a generalized Van der Pol equation arising in plasma oscillations
Motivated by some published theoretical investigations and based on the two-fluid model, nonlinear plasma oscillations are analyzed and discussed in the framework of the generalized Van der Pol equation.

The dynamics of solid objects falling through a viscous fluid was studied. The forces that control the motion as well as the effects of fluid viscosity and object density were studied using an analytical model.

An approximate solution for a penny-shaped hydraulic fracture that accounts for fracture toughness, fluid viscosity and leak-off [PDF]
This paper develops a closed-form approximate solution for a penny-shaped hydraulic fracture whose behaviour is determined by an interplay of three competing physical processes that are associated with fluid viscosity, fracture toughness and fluid leak ...
