In pneumatic conveying, particles are generally in suspension in a turbulent gas stream. The question of drag on a single particle, and the effects of Reynolds number, particle shape and roughness, voidage, turbulence intensity and scale of turbulence, acceleration, etc. on drag are relevant to pneumatic conveying.

Physiological Measurement, 2004
Hydrocephalus is far more complicated than a simple disorder of CSF circulation. Historically, it has been diagnosed using clinical and psychomotor assessment plus brain imaging. The role of physiological measurement to aid diagnosis becomes more appreciated in current clinical practice. This has been reflected by recently formulated guidelines for the

The heart is modeled as a system of elastic and/or contractile fibers immersed in a viscous incompressible fluid. Simulated heart walls and valves are constructed by arranging the fibers according to an idealized version of the actual distribution of muscle fibers in the heart walls and collagen fibers in the valve leaflets. Then the combined motion of

The reciprocal theorem in fluid dynamics and transport phenomena
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2019In the study of fluid dynamics and transport phenomena, key quantities of interest are often the force and torque on objects and total rate of heat/mass transfer from them.

The Equations of Fluid Dynamics [PDF]
In this chapter we present the governing equations for the dynamics of a compressible material, such as a gas, along with closure conditions in the form of equations of state. Equations of state are statements about the nature of the material in question and require some notions from Thermodynamics.

Dynamics of Labyrinthine Fluids
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1969IN MAINTAINING the homeostatic conditions of the soft tissues, the fluids of the inner ear serve three major functions. They provide for the metabolic exchange of nutrients and waste products within the delicate structures of the organ of Corti. They maintain the distribution of ions with the resulting resting potentials that apparently are important ...

Relativistic Fluid Dynamics in and out of Equilibrium
, 2017Ten years ago, relativistic viscous fluid dynamics was formulated from first principles in an effective field theory framework, based entirely on the knowledge of symmetries and long-lived degrees of freedom.

The nearly inexhaustible variety of flow phenomena - from the flow through blood vessels, the flow in centrifugal pumps to global weather events is based on a few basic physical laws only. In this chapter these will be briefly reviewed and their general nature illuminated. Emphasis will be on the phenomena which are of special interest and significance
