Cerebrospinal Fluid Flow

open access: yesAnnual Review of Fluid Mechanics, 2023
Circulation of cerebrospinal fluid and interstitial fluid around the central nervous system and through the brain transports not only those water-like fluids but also any solutes they carry, including nutrients, drugs, and metabolic wastes. Passing through brain tissue primarily during sleep, this circulation has implications for neurodegenerative ...

Fluid flow in the sarcomere [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2021
A highly organized and densely packed lattice of molecular machinery within the sarcomeres of muscle cells powers contraction. Although many of the proteins that drive contraction have been studied extensively, the mechanical impact of fluid shearing within the lattice of molecular machinery has received minimal attention. It was recently proposed that

Fluid vesicles in flow [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2014
We review the dynamical behavior of giant fluid vesicles in various types of external hydrodynamic flow. The interplay between stresses arising from membrane elasticity, hydrodynamic flows, and the ever present thermal fluctuations leads to a rich phenomenology.

AERODYNAMIC ENHANCEMENT IN INNER CHANNEL OF TURBINE BLADE

open access: yesTASK Quarterly, 2015
This paper presents the numerical and experimental study of the flow structure in a radial cooling passage model of a gas turbine blade. The investigations focus on the flow aerodynamics in the channel, which is an accurate representation of the ...

Chaos in wavy-stratified fluid-fluid flow [PDF]

open access: yesChaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2019
We perform a nonlinear analysis of a fluid-fluid wavy-stratified flow using a simplified two-fluid model (TFM), i.e., the fixed-flux model (FFM), which is an adaptation of the shallow water theory for the two-layer problem. Linear analysis using the perturbation method illustrates the short-wave physics leading to the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHI).

Dynamic Voltage Regulation and Unbalance Compensation in a Low-Voltage Distribution Network Using Energy Storage System

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Modern distribution grids may suffer problems of voltage distortion, especially along radial low-voltage feeders with a high penetration of intermittent, unbalanced and distorted loads and generation sources.

Fluid Vesicles in Shear Flow [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1996
The shape dynamics of fluid vesicles is governed by the coupling of the flow within the two-dimensional membrane to the hydrodynamics of the surrounding bulk fluid. We present a numerical scheme which is capable of solving this flow problem for arbitrarily shaped vesicles using the Oseen tensor formalism. For the particular problem of simple shear flow,
