Bacteria thrive in environments rich in fluid flow, such as the gastrointestinal tract, bloodstream, aquatic systems, and the urinary tract. Despite the importance of flow, how flow affects bacterial life is underappreciated.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are able to produce complex and large outputs that accurately describe the physical properties of fluids and gases in various domains, such as air flow around a car, or the multi-phase flow inside an internal combustion engine. The simulation results, i.e.

Mechanical signals are major regulators of skeletal homeostasis as the addition of exogenous load is followed by enhanced bone formation and the removal of normal loads is followed by net bone loss. The mechanism by which bone cells perceive and respond to changes in their biophysical environment are still poorly understood, but it is widely accepted ...

This chapter presents an overview of techniques for visualization of fluid flow data. As a starting point, a brief introduction to experimental flow visualization is given. The rest of the chapter concentrates on computer graphics flow visualization. A pipeline model of the flow visualization process is used as a basis for presentation.

Fluids are substances that flow without disintegration when pressure is applied. This definition of a fluid includes gases, liquids, and certain solids. A number of foods are fluids. In addition, gases such as compressed air and steam are also used in food processing, and they exhibit resistance to flow just as liquids do.
