Proximate historiographies in Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi’s Kintu

open access: yesTydskrif vir Letterkunde, 2021
Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi’s novel Kintu (2014) places alongside forms of historical fiction familiar to European readers, a form of historical causality that obeys a different logic, namely, one governed by the long-term efficacity of a curse uttered in

Neutrosophic Quantum Theory: Partial Entanglement, Partial Effect of the Observer, and Teleportation [PDF]

open access: yesNeutrosophic Sets and Systems
Quantum mechanics presents phenomena, such as entanglement and the observer effect, that challenge classical logical frameworks. Traditional binary and even fuzzy logic often prove insufficient in capturing the inherent imprecision, incompleteness, and ...

A thermal logic device based on fluid-solid interfaces

open access: yes, 2013
Thermal rectification requires that thermal conductivity not be a separable function of position and temperature. Investigators have considered inhomogeneous solids to design thermal rectifiers but manipulations of solid lattices are energy intensive. We

A Fuzzy Logic Approach for the Reduction of Mesh-Induced Error in CFD Analysis: A Case Study of an Impinging Jet

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
A crucial step in any computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis is the discretization of the domain because it influences truncation errors, numerical stability, and the convergence of the model.

Active matter logic for autonomous microfluidics

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Active fluids consist of self-driven particles that can drive spontaneous flow without the intervention of external forces. Here Woodhouseet al. show how to design logic circuits using this phenomenon in active fluid networks, which could be further ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Machining process modeling by means of FEM and the use of metamodels with fuzzy logic and linear regression

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2014
In this work it was implemented a numerical model that simulates the process of orthogonal machining of metallic materials by means of the Finite Elements Method (FEM). For the development of the model, the program Ansys Flotran was used.

Fluid institutional logics in digital journalism [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Media Business Studies, 2019
The negotiation of competing institutional logics is relevant for organisations active in multi-institutional domains. News organisations are active in the domains of democracy and business, and, through digitisation, they are active in the digital technology domain.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
