Profiling neoadjuvant therapy response in rectal cancer using meta‐analysis of publicly available transcriptomic RNA‐seq datasets

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates publicly available transcriptomic datasets to identify molecular signatures associated with response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer. By analyzing a combination of multiple cohorts with bioinformatics approaches, we reveal biological pathways and immune‐related features that may improve ...

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Exploring the influence of lactoferrin on wound healing and related signaling pathways: a systematic review

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Lactoferrin promotes wound healing by activating MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and extracellular matrix pathways, enhancing fibroblast remodeling, proliferation, and re‐epithelialization. These mechanisms highlight its therapeutic potential in inflammation control, tissue repair, and remodeling.

Hyper-oncotic albumin administration reduces mortality in acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome compared to crystalloid: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine
Background To evaluate the association between albumin administration as volume replacement and mortality in adult ARDS patients, we performed this meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis (TSA).Methods We searched databases including PubMed, Science ...

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Estimation of thoracic fluid content by using noninvasive cardiometry in critically ill children with acute kidney injury

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation
Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is frequently seen in critically ill children. Appropriate assessment of fluid status is needed in those with AKI as either excess fluid removal or fluid overload is associated with high morbidity and poor clinical ...

The Global End-Diastolic Volume (GEDV) Could Be More Appropiate to Fluid Management Than Central Venous Pressure (CVP) During Closed Hyperthermic Intrabdominal Chemotherapy with CO2 Circulation

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Surgery, 2018
Background: Closed hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) may increase abdominal pressure and effects of hemodynamic changes due to maintenance hyperthermia.

Acute kidney injury in children – not just for the nephrologist

open access: yesSouth African Family Practice, 2015
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a condition that is characterised by an abrupt reduction in kidney function, and is not limited to acute renal failure. However, it is potentially treatable.

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Baseline-Referenced Longitudinal Point-of-Care Ultrasound for Fluid Management After Kidney Transplantation: A Retrospective Comparison with Central Venous Pressure-Guided Care

open access: yesLife
Fluid management after kidney transplantation requires balancing adequate graft perfusion against fluid overload. We compared central venous pressure (CVP)-guided and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)-guided postoperative management and explored whether ...
