Lewis Research Center's coal-fired, pressurized, fluidized-bed reactor test facility [PDF]

open access: yes
A 200-kilowatt-thermal, pressurized, fluidized-bed (PFB) reactor, research test facility was designed, constructed, and operated as part of a NASA-funded project to assess and evaluate the effect of PFB hot-gas effluent on aircraft turbine engine ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 9, 6 May 2026.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Simultaneous Deoxygenation and Isomerization for Environmentally Sustainable Biofuel Production: A Review of Bifunctional Ni‐Based Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Energy and Sustainability Research, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
Systematical review of environmentally sustainable biofuel production through simultaneous hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) and hydroisomerization of biomass‐derived intermediates using bifunctional Ni‐based catalysts. The review highlights key HDO pathways (hydrogenolysis, decarboxylation, and decarbonylation), the influence of support acidity, metal ...

Fluidized-bed reactor modeling for production of silicon by silane pyrolysis [PDF]

open access: yes
An ideal backmixed reactor model (CSTR) and a fluidized bed bubbling reactor model (FBBR) were developed for silane pyrolysis. Silane decomposition is assumed to occur via two pathways: homogeneous decomposition and heterogeneous chemical vapor ...

3D investigation and modeling of the geometric effects on porosity in packed beds

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 72, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract In porous beds, physical boundaries restrict particle arrangement, leading to inhomogeneous porosity. This paper reports on the porosity profiles that are the result of geometric effects on monodisperse packed beds in cylindrical and cubic arrangements. Special focus is given to the influence of edges and corners in cubic geometries.
