Challenges and enablers in fluidization technology
Abstract Gas–solid fluidized beds provide excellent heat and mass transfer for high‐throughput operations from coating to catalytic conversion and underpin emerging low‐carbon technologies. Yet industrial reliability, scale‐up, and control lag scientific understanding, particularly as finer, stickier, and more variable feedstocks increasingly challenge

A MINLP Solution for Pellet Reactor Modeling [PDF]
A fluidized bed reactor for phosphate precipitation and removal from wastewater is modeled according to a two-step procedure. The first modeling phase, based on the development of a thermodynamic model for the computation of phosphate conversion ...

Abstract Chemical‐looping gasification (CLG) offers a promising route for renewable biomass valorization, yet conventional oxygen carrier regeneration with O₂/H₂O is energy‐intensive and often produces low‐quality syngas. Here, we develop an inverse ZrO2/Co3O4 oxygen carrier that enables selective biochar oxidation and efficient lattice‐oxygen transfer

A new drag and lift correlation for spherocylinders from fully resolved Immersed Boundary Method
Abstract Many industrial processes deal with non‐spherical particles, e.g., mineral mining and biomass conversion. It is crucial to understand the particles' hydrodynamics to control and optimize these processes. To extend the current state‐of‐the‐art from arrays of spherical particles to spherocylindrical particles, we performed extensive particle ...

Pyrolysis of Softwood Carbohydrates in a Fluidized Bed Reactor [PDF]
In the present work pyrolysis of pure pine wood and softwood carbohydrates, namely cellulose and galactoglucomannan (the major hemicellulose in coniferous wood), was conducted in a batch mode operated fluidized bed reactor. Temperature ramping (5°C/min) was applied to the heating until a reactor temperature of 460 °C was reached.

Flow characteristics and regime transitions in fluidization systems of Group C+ particles
Abstract Fine and ultrafine particles are attractive for fluidized bed reactors because their high surface area benefits catalytic processes, but their cohesive nature complicates regime characterization. Nanoparticle modulation improves the flowability of Group C powders, yet their bubbling to turbulent transition remains unclear.
