Design of a fluidized bed scrubber
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Process Design and Development, 1985Current design of the fluidized bed scrubber (FBS), otherwise known as the Turbulent Contact Absorber or the Mobile Bed Contactor, is based on experience and rules of thumb. In this paper published equations on hydrodynamics and mass transfer are reviewed. From the equations a logical design procedure for the FBS Is proposed.

Dynamics of a shallow fluidized bed
Physical Review E, 1999The results of the experimental study of the dynamics of a shallow fluidized bed are reported. The behavior of granular material is controlled by the interplay of two factors--levitation due to the upward airflow, and sliding back due to gravity. Near the threshold of instability, the system shows critical behavior with remarkably long transient ...

Influence of Fluidization Velocity on Bed Defluidization in Fluidized Bed Combustors
18th International Conference on Fluidized Bed Combustion, 2005Effects of superficial gas velocity and bed particle size on bed defluidization during biomass combustion were investigated. Sampled bed particles from four different large-scale circulating- and bubbling fluidized bed combustors, using biomass as fuel, were collected and analyzed.

Biological denitrification in a fluidized bed
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1984AbstractA fluidized bed biofilm reactor using sand as the carrier particle was employed to study the effects of superficial velocity on the removal of nitrates as well as on the growth of the biofilm. Velocity was found to affect significantly both nitrate removal and biofilm growth.

The development of fluidized bed combustion
Environmental Science & Technology, 1980Technical feature:The development of fluidized-bed combustion (FBC) technology in the U.K. during the 1960's and beyond is reported. FBC technology was developed to reduce the capital costs of coal combustion and to facilitate the efficient use of lower grade coal. The status of operating FBC boilers in the U.K. is examined.

Fluidization of nanoagglomerates in a rotating fluidized bed
AIChE Journal, 2006AbstractAgglomerates of nanoparticles were fluidized in a rotating fluidized bed (RFB) system at different rotating speeds corresponding to 10, 20, 30 and 40 times the gravity force (9.8 m/s2). The powders, fumed silica Aerosil® R974, Aerosil® R972 and Aeroxide® TiO2 P25, with a primary particle size of 12, 16 and 21 nm, respectively, form micron sized

Fluidization of cylinder particles in a fluidized bed
Advanced Powder Technology, 2017Abstract An experimental study of the flow regimes and transitions in a fluidized bed (cross-section of 200 mm × 200 mm and height of 2000 mm) containing a mixture of cylindrical particles and silica sand is carried out. Six different flow regimes are identified: fixed bed (F), bubbling fluidization (B), transition fluidization (T), partial ...

Nonlinear Instabilities in Fluidized Beds
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1983Abstract The interpretation of linear instabilities of voidage disturbances in fluidized beds (ref. 12) is reviewed and the natural extension to nonlinear instabilities presented in the light of interpretation of observations (refs. 9, 10). The role of the constitutive relations in the analysis is also discussed.

FLUIDIZED-BED PYROLYSIS OF GLUCOMANNAN
2013The pyrolysis of particles of glucomannan, the main component of softwood hemicelluloses, is investigated in a fluidized-bed reactor. A first set of experiments is carried out for temperatures in the range 530-690K to determine yields and composition of products. The most abundant are char, water and carbon dioxide.
