While check dams are crucial for debris flow mitigation, they face increasing failure risks under extreme weather and seismic activities. Their collapse can severely amplify debris flow magnitude, yet quantitative understanding of this amplification ...

Abstract Coastal vegetation often grows in spatially distributed patches. However, the influence of individual vegetation patches on small‐scale hydrodynamics has not been well characterized under natural conditions with tidally varying water depths.

ABSTRACT Invasive species such as grass carp ( Ctenopharyngodon idella ) pose substantial ecological threats to North American freshwater ecosystems. Understanding their early life stage behavior is critical for management efforts. From spawning to hatching, invasive carp eggs must remain suspended in the water column while drifting downstream for the ...

Aerial and Space‐Borne Seismology on Venus: Viability and Design Implications for Future Missions
Abstract Venus' evolution remains a mystery because of the lack of in situ geophysical data to constrain its interior structure. Recently‐selected planetary missions VERITAS (NASA), DAVINCI+ (NASA), and EnVision (ESA) will investigate the planet's interior, surface, and atmospheric chemistry.

Numerical study of the influence of Geometrical Parameters on flow in water Pump-Sump [PDF]
Water for irrigation, domestic and industrial supply as well for some power generation is normally drawn directly from rivers or from reservoir through sumps.

Variations in roughness predictions (flume experiments)
Data of flume experiments with bed forms are used to analyze and compare different roughness predictors. In this study, the hydraulic roughness consists of grain roughness and form roughness. We predict the grain roughness by means of the size of the sediment.

Grain Size Sorting and Steady Bars Formation in Straight Channels—Part 1: Laboratory Experiments
Abstract Surface grain size in gravel‐bed rivers is inherently heterogeneous, with marked spatial variability that remains challenging to predict, even in the presence of regular bedforms. This study investigates surface grain size variability on self‐formed alternate bars at the scale of a single bar unit, and is divided in two parts.

Variation in benthic colonization on tile and in leaf degradation - results from a flume experiment in Norway [PDF]
Clean water support economic and recreational activities as well as provide a healthy habitat for flora and fauna. Gradual pollution of water in Europa over the past decades have resulted in a water management across country boarders and increased the ...

Grain Size Sorting and Steady Bars Formation in Straight Channels—Part 2: Linear Theory
Abstract This is the second of two papers aimed to investigate grain sorting patterns associated with the formation of steady alternate bars in gravel‐bed rivers. Part 1 presented the analysis of a series of tailored experiments, performed in a mobile bed laboratory flume with fixed, straight banks. The results showed that a consistent pattern of grain
