A liquid metal flume for free surface magnetohydrodynamic experiments [PDF]
We present an experiment designed to study magnetohydrodynamic effects in free surface channel flow. The wide aspect ratio channel (the width to height ratio is about 15) is completely enclosed in an inert atmosphere to prevent oxidization of the liquid metal.

New opportunities for experiments in fluvial geomorphology: the flume PTETHYS
In recent decades both physical modelling and computer simulation of fluvial processes has undergone rapid progress. The paper summarizes the achievements of both international and Hungarian laboratory experiments in fluvial geomorphology.

Investigating periphyton biofilm response to changing phosphorus concentrations in UK rivers using within-river flumes [PDF]
The excessive growth of benthic algal biofilms in UK rivers is a widespread problem, resulting in loss of plant communities and wider ecological damage.

Back-flow ripples in troughs downstream of unit bars: Formation, preservation and value for interpreting flow conditions [PDF]
Back-flow ripples are bedforms created within the lee-side eddy of a larger bedform with migration directions opposed or oblique to that of the host bedform.

Effect of near‐bed turbulence on chronic detachment of epilithic biofilm: Experimental and modeling approaches. [PDF]
The biomass dynamics of epilithic biofilm, a collective term for a complex microorganism community that grows on gravel bed rivers, was investigated by coupling experimental and numerical approaches focusing on epilithic biofilm‐flow interactions.

Hydraulics of braided river dynamics. Insights from flume experiments
We focus on the measurement of the topography and bathymetry in flume-models of braided rivers. To this aim, an innovative measurement system is adopted. It consists of a laser-ultrasonic sensor and can survey the bed elevation under flowing water.

Laboratory experiments and numerical model of local scour around submerged sharp crested weirs
The use of theoretical models, with multiphase flow (air, water, and sand), is lacking in prior research for the simulation and management of erosion around hydraulic structures. In this research, flume experiments and a Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD)

Gravity wave turbulence in a laboratory flume [PDF]
We present an experimental study of the statistics of surface gravity wave turbulence in a flume of a horizontal size 12×6 m. For a wide range of amplitudes the wave energy spectrum was found to scale as Eω∼ω-ν in a frequency range of up to one decade ...

Experimental Study on Landslides of Loose Sediment Slope Induced by Stream Bed Incision
Uplift of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau has resulted in rapid incision of rivers along the margin of the plateau. Landslides occur frequently as a consequence of increasing bank slope and potential landslide energy due to stream bed incision or lateral ...
