Immune Checkpoint PD‐L1 Modulates Retinal Microglial Activation to Alleviate Vascular Leakage in Choroidal Neovascularization via ERK

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PD‐L1 limits neuroinflammation in neovascular AMD by modulating microglial activation. Its deficiency exacerbates vascular leakage and choroidal neovascularization (CNV) via ERK signaling, while enhancing PD‐L1 reduces inflammation and neovascularization. Targeting PD‐L1 may offer a novel immunomodulatory strategy for NVAMD.

Diagnosing and monitoring diabetic macular edema: structural and functional tests. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Diabetic macular edema remains a major cause of visual impairment in adults despite the use of intensive glycemic control, photocoagulation therapy and new intravitreal drugs in the treatment of this disease.

The utility of wide-field optical coherence tomography angiography in diagnosis and monitoring of proliferative diabetic retinopathy in pregnancy

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports, 2022
Purpose: Diabetic retinopathy is an increasingly common complication of diabetes mellitus that benefits from early diagnosis and frequent monitoring, especially in pregnancy where there is a greater risk of progression.

Nonperfused Peripheral Retinal Area in Eyes with Chronic Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment

open access: yesCase Reports in Ophthalmology, 2020
We report two cases of chronic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with a nonperfused peripheral retinal area. Case 1 was an 84-year-old woman who presented with a bullous retinal detachment of the inferior retina and a best-corrected visual acuity of 20 ...

Muscle‐Derived Small Extracellular Vesicles Mediate Exercise‐Induced Cognitive Protection in Chronic Cerebral Hypoperfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
sEVs have a critical role in orchestrating interorgan crosstalk and mediating exercise‐induced therapeutic effects. Lin et al. demonstrates that sEVs miR‐17/20a‐5p mediates the muscle‐brain crosstalk and emphasizes the central role of mTOR signaling in executing molecular programs that can protect brain health in response to exercise. Abstract Physical

Quantitative spatial and temporal analysis of fluorescein angiography dynamics in the eye. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
PURPOSE: We describe a novel approach to analyze fluorescein angiography to investigate fluorescein flow dynamics in the rat posterior retina as well as identify abnormal areas following laser photocoagulation.

OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY, FLUORESCEIN ANGIOGRAPHY, AND DIAGNOSIS OF CHOROIDAL NEOVASCULARIZATION IN AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION

open access: yesRetina, 2018
In a prospective study, spectral domain optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography, combined with color fundus photograph used as a first diagnostic test in patients aged 50 years or older, had a similar sensitivity and specificity for the ...

Nanostructured drug delivery systems for posterior segment eye diseases: Strategies to defy ocular barriers

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Efficient drug delivery to the posterior segment of the eye has long been a challenging issue due to the complex ocular barriers. The review focuses on the promise held by nanoplatforms for barrier penetration and the key mechanisms involved, also highlighting their advantages in achieving efficient drug delivery and superior treatment of PSEDs ...

\u3cem\u3eIn vivo\u3c/em\u3e Imaging of Human Retinal Microvasculature Using Adaptive Optics Scanning Light Ophthalmoscope Fluorescein Angiography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) allows visualization of microscopic structures of the human retina in vivo. In this work, we demonstrate its application in combination with oral and intravenous (IV) fluorescein angiography (FA ...
