Nanodiamond‐Based Quantum Sensing Reveals Changes in Endo‐Lysosomal Activity of Stimulated Cardiac Fibroblasts in a Cellular Fibrosis Model

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum sensing reveals intricate patterns linking endo‐lysosomal maturation to cardiac fibrosis progression, highlighting complexity in cellular remodeling. This study investigates fibroblast‐to‐myofibroblast transition under cell aging, stiffness, and TGF‐β stimulation, comparing nanodiamond uptake, endo‐lysosomal dynamics, and free radical ...

Towards using fluorescent nanodiamonds for studying cell migration

open access: yesCancer Nanotechnology
Since wound healing requires cells to repopulate a damaged area, cell migration is essential. In addition, migration plays a crucial role in cancer metastasis.

Extremely rapid isotropic irradiation of nanoparticles with ions generated in situ by a nuclear reaction

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Mass production of nanoparticles containing well-controlled structural defects is a challenge. Here the authors demonstrate the feasibility of homogeneous ion irradiation generated in a nuclear reactor, for the preparation of fluorescent nanodiamonds and

Near-field microscopy with a scanning nitrogen-vacancy color center in a diamond nanocrystal: A brief review

open access: yes, 2015
We review our recent developments of near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) that uses an active tip made of a single fluorescent nanodiamond (ND) grafted onto the apex of a substrate fiber tip.

Production of metal-free diamond nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, the controlled production of high-quality metal-free diamond nanoparticles is demonstrated. Milling with tempered steel is shown to leave behind iron oxide contamination which is difficult to remove.

Boron‐Doped Nano‐Crystalline Coated Carbon Fibers for Phasic Dopamine Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This uniform coating presents a mix of graphitic and diamond‐like carbon to create a mechanically and electrically robust alternative for the electrochemical detection of dopamine. The electrodes in this work possess the equivalent sensitivity to the state‐of‐the‐art FSCV dopamine detecting electrodes, whilst demonstrating an ability to withstand ...

Fluorescent oxide nanoparticles adapted to active tips for near-field optics

open access: yes, 2008
We present a new kind of fluorescent oxide nanoparticles with properties well suited to active-tip based near-field optics. These particles with an average diameter in the range 5-10 nm are produced by Low Energy Cluster Beam Deposition (LECBD) from a ...

Probing Cellular Activity Via Charge‐Sensitive Quantum Nanoprobes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new quantum sensing modality detects shifts in zero‐field splitting caused by charge rearrangement with diamond nanocrystals in response to cellular activity. These electric‐field‐driven effects provide an alternative to temperature‐based interpretations, enabling real‐time, single‐cell readout of inflammation.
