Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Fluoride prophylaxis - poison or simple way to get rid of early childhood caries (ECC) – review

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2023
Introduction: As a prevention, fluoride is used systemically as well as topically in the oral cavity.  Thanks to fluoride prophylaxis, one of the most common bacterial disease in the world can be significantly reduced. This disease is dental caries.

Synthesis, x-ray structure and anion binding properties of a cryptand-like hybrid calixpyrrole [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The novel cryptand in/out-3, containing two tripyrrolemethane units briged by three 1,3- diisopropylidenbenzene arms was readily synthesized by a convergent three-step synthesis. It binds fluoride by inclusion with excellent selectivity with respect to a

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Anchorage‐independent and faster growth in clonal population from UV‐irradiated NER‐deficient cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UV‐irradiated cells expressing a DDB2 mutant protein unable to interact with PCNA (DDB2PCNA‐) form clones able to grow without anchorage. Different experimental approaches reveal heterogeneity in cell cycle regulation and drug response within these clones, emphasizing the crucial role of the DDB2‐PCNA interaction in preventing cellular transformation ...

Laser irradiation prevents root caries: Microhardness and scanning electron microscopy analysis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dental Research, 2022
Context: A promising option for the prevention of dental caries is the use of laser irradiation. Aims: Evaluate the effects of Er:YAG, Nd:YAG, and CO2 laser irradiation, associated or not to 2% sodium fluoride (2% NaF), on root caries prevention ...

Red Mn4+-doped fluoride phosphors : why purity matters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Traditional light sources, e.g., incandescent and fluorescent lamps, are currently being replaced by white light-emitting diodes (wLEDs) because of their improved efficiency, prolonged lifetime, and environmental friendliness.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.
