Inhibition of Erosive Wear by Fluoride Varnish
Caries Research, 2006It has been suggested that fluoride products with a protective mechanical component are advantageous in the prevention of erosive wear. The aim of this study was to evaluate in situ the effect of fluoride varnish (FV) in the prevention of wear due to erosion and combined erosion and toothbrush abrasion.

Fluoride varnishes were developed as alternatives to the conventional topical applications, mainly to prolong contact time between fluoride and teeth. Two marketed products, Duraphat and Fluor Protector, have been extensively tested and are generally accepted for clinical use. In this overview of fluoride varnishes the state of the art of both products

Treating hypersensitivity with fluoride varnishes.
Compendium of continuing education in dentistry (Jamesburg, N.J. : 1995), 1999Dentinal hypersensitivity results when stimulation causes the fluid in open dentinal tubules to undergo pressure changes, which activates mechanoreceptor nerves and results in pain. Treatment with fluoride varnish forms a protective layer of calcium fluoride that prevents this fluid flow, thereby reducing dentinal sensitivity.

Fluoride release from newly marketed fluoride varnishes.
Quintessence international (Berlin, Germany : 1985), 2012New fluoride varnishes have been marketed that reportedly release more fluoride (Enamel Pro) or release fluoride more slowly (Vanish XT). The purpose of this study was to compare the amount and rate of fluoride release of new fluoride varnishes with other traditional fluoride varnishes.Extracted molars were cut into block sections.
