Dentifrices for preventing erosive tooth wear: An in vitro comparative study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Erosive tooth wear is a progressive condition that compromises enamel structure and requires preventive strategies. This in vitro study aimed to compare the protective effects of fluoride‐based dentifrices containing various bioactive agents on sound enamel subjected to simulated erosive–abrasive challenges.

In Vitro Comparison of the Fluoride Ion Release from the First- and Second-Generation Fluoride Varnishes

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Fluoride varnishes, both the first and the second generations, are effective in inhibiting caries, especially in children and adolescents, by reducing it on average by 43% for permanent teeth and 37% for deciduous teeth.

Physicochemical and remineralisation properties of calcium silicate and glass ionomer cements applied in simulated caries‐affected dentine

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Calcium silicate‐based and glass ionomer cements are often used in caries‐affected dentine. This study investigated the remineralising and physicochemical properties of two calcium silicates and a glass ionomer cement. Human molars with Class I cavities were subjected to pH cycling to simulate caries lesions.

Fluoride Plus Calcium Phosphate Varnishes: A Possible Link between Mineral Phase Formations and Observed Clinical Outcomes

open access: yesDental Hypotheses, 2021
Introduction: Incorporation of calcium phosphate agents into fluoride varnishes might improve anticaries benefits. But when clinical results do not mirror this view, explanations remain unclear.

Consideration of Oral Health Within Guidelines and Policy Documents Focused on Nutritional Status and Dietary Intake for Older Adults in Care Homes in the UK: A Scoping Review

open access: yesGerodontology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Older care home residents are particularly vulnerable to both malnutrition and chronic dental diseases, such as caries and periodontal disease. While high‐sugar oral nutritional supplements and fortified foods are commonly used to prevent undernutrition, excessive sugar intake increases the risk of dental caries.
