Relationship between the structure of polymers with well-defined fluorocarbon segmental lengths and the formation of secondary ions in SIMS

open access: yesSurface and Interface Analysis, 2002
A series of fluorinated polymers were studied using time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) to investigate the relationship between the structures of the polymers and secondary ions.

Surface Enrichment of Fluorocarbon End-Capped Polymers with Different Fluorocarbon Lengths

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2016
This study investigated the surface structure of fluorocarbon end-capped l-poly(lactide)s (F-PLLA) with different fluorocarbon lengths by electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA). Fluorocarbon chains of three lengths (F(CF2)n(CH2)2, where n = 6, 8, and 10) have been synthesized as the terminal group to PLLA.

Surface Modification of Fluorocarbon Polymers by Synchrotron Radiation

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2003
Fluorocarbon polymers are fluorishingly used as the material for industry from some characteristic advantages - chemical stability, thermal stability, excellent electric property and so on. One of other characteristics of fluorocarbon polymers was hydrophobicity of these surfaces, and fluorocarbon polymers were applicable to various industrial yields ...

Ultraviolet Photoablation of a Plasma-Synthesized Fluorocarbon Polymer

Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1990
Plasma polymerized tetrafluoroethylene (PPTFE) is shown to undergo efficient 248 nm excimer laser ablation. The principle difference between this material and the analogous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which results in only poor quality ablation, is PPTFE's much greater absorption coefficient.

Diffusion of gases in fluorocarbon polymers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1963
AbstractThe diffusion and solubility coefficients and their temperature coefficients of several gases in fluorocarbon polymers were measured by a spring balance and radiotracer method. The activation energies of small molecule diffusion in polytetrafluoroethylene increase with the diffusate molecular diameter squared.

A synthesis for SF5 substituted fluorocarbon polymers

Journal of Polymer Science Part C: Polymer Letters, 1990
Synthesis of both hydrocarbon and perfluorocarbon vinyl polymers containing the SF5 group have been accomplished by the reaction of elemental fluorine with poly (S-vinyl-O-t-butylthiocar bonate(. The resulting linear polymers have pendant SF5 groups with similar structures to polytetrafluoroethylene and polyethylene.

Etching and functionalization of a fluorocarbon polymer by UV laser treatment

Applied Surface Science, 1996
The most important modifications of PTFE surface composition are obtained when the polymer is irradiated with an excimer laser in O2: with XPS, we have shown the possibility to oxidize more than 2% of carbon species on the polymer surface; they might be proved suitable to improve compatibility with biological tissues.

Hydrocarbon versus Fluorocarbon in the Electrodeposition of Superhydrophobic Polymer Films

Langmuir, 2010
To elaborate on superhydrophobic surfaces, we report the electrochemical synthesis, surface morphology, and wettability of hydrocarbon conductive polymer films obtained by the electrodeposition of polythiophene, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (i.e., PEDOT), and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxypyrrole) (i.e., PEDOP) derivatives.

Collagen Synthesized in Fluorocarbon Polymer Implant in the Rabbit Cornea

Experimental Eye Research, 1996
The integration of microporous polymer into tissues is of great interest for the production of keratoprosthetic devices. Our previous studies showed functional differentiated cells and collagen synthesis in the pore of an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene implant. This study identifies and quantifies collagen types synthesized in the implant.
