Heterogeneous nucleation of pits via step pinning during Si(100) homoepitaxy
Using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we investigate oxide-induced growth pits in Si thin films deposited by molecular beam epitaxy. In the transition temperature range from 2D adatom islanding to step-flow growth, systematic controlled air leaks ...

Critical State in Thin Anisotropic Superconductors of Arbitrary Shape
A thin flat superconductor of arbitrary shape and with arbitrary in-plane and out-of-plane anisotropy of flux-line pinning is considered, in an external magnetic field normal to its plane.

Vortex pinning and flux flow microwave studies of coated conductors
Demanding microwave applications in a magnetic field require the material optimization not only in zero-field but, more important, in the in-field flux motion dominated regime.

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Influence of adding BaSnO3 nanoparticles on magnetic transport properties for CuTl-1223 phase
Co-precipitation method and solid-state reaction technique were used to synthesize BaSnO3 nanoparticles and (BaSnO3)x/Cu0.5Tl0.5Ba2Ca2Cu3O10−δ samples, 0.00 ≤ x ≤ 1.50 wt%, respectively. All samples were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD)
