The chasing behaviour of male blowflies after small targets belongs to the most rapid and virtuosic visually guided behaviours found in nature. Since in a structured environment any turn towards a target inevitably leads to a displacement of the entire ...

This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

ENGINEERING OF THE BOOST SYSTEM FOR SMALL-SIZE GAS-TURBINE ENGINE WITH PULSE-DETONATION MODULE
One of the promising ways to boost the gas turbine engine is to install a pulse detonation module in the exhaust case. Research on the effectiveness of the developed module in the expenditure thermal vacuum chamber, providing a complete simulation of ...

AbstractWe report an experimental ptychography measurement performed in fly-scan mode. With a visible-light laser source, we demonstrate a 5-fold reduction of data acquisition time. By including multiple mutually incoherent modes into the incident illumination, high quality images were successfully reconstructed from blurry diffraction patterns.

A 73‐Year‐Old Man With Several Years of Difficulty Climbing Stairs and Frequent Tripping
ABSTRACT A 73‐year‐old man presented with progressive weakness and atrophy predominantly affecting the distal finger flexors and quadriceps muscles. Electrophysiological studies demonstrated mixed myogenic and neurogenic features. Muscle MRI showed inflammatory changes, and muscle biopsy revealed granulomatous myositis with histologic features ...

Disentangling of Local and Wide-Field Motion Adaptation
Motion adaptation has been attributed in flying insects a pivotal functional role in spatial vision based on optic flow. Ongoing motion enhances in the visual pathway the representation of spatial discontinuities, which manifest themselves as velocity ...

Spatial Distribution of the Goldenrod Ball Gall Insects [PDF]
The goldenrod ball gall fly, Eurosta solidaginis (Diptera: Tephritidae), is parasitized by two eurytomid wasps and preyed on by a mordellid beetle, and two bird species. The birds are known to prey most intensively near a forest edge.
