Investigation of Fresh Properties of Self-Leveling Cement-Based Pastes with CFB Fly Ash as an SCM

open access: yesBuildings
The incorporation of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) fly ash into self-leveling cement-based (SLC) paste production presents significant environmental advantages. However, its addition deteriorates the fresh properties of the paste, posing challenges for

Where Should the Old Clothes Go? — Promoting Circularity in Sub‐Saharan Construction Through Textile Waste

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Textile waste poses a major challenge in the 21st century, particularly for Sub‐Saharan African countries, where local production and high imports lead to excessive waste, often ending up in landfills or incineration. However, opportunities for recycling and repurposing textile waste into construction materials are emerging.

Constructing a quadrilateral inside another one [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
Connect each vertex of a convex quadrilateral Q to the midpoint of the next (proceeding counterclockwise) side. The four connecting lines create an interior quadrilateral I. We study the ratio area(I)/area(Q). We also determine what happens to area(I)/area(Q) when the four midpoints are replaced by points which divide the sides in the ratio of rho to ...

Phosphorus removal by fly ash

open access: yesEnvironment International, 1998
The aim of this work was to investigate the possible use of fly ash generated from thermic power stations in the removal of phosphorus contained in aqueous solutions. A series of batch tests were conducted and the influence of temperature, phosphate concentration, and fly ash dosage on phosphate removal were investigated.

On‐Tip Polymerization Method for Multimodal Characterization of Nanoparticles with Electron/Ion Imaging and Atom Probe Tomography

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
This study presents an on‐tip polymerization method that employs a needle substrate with a designed through‐microchannel (“needle‐eye”) to retain a picoliter‐scale solution of nanoparticles. Using a resin precursor as the solution, polymerization is carried out in situ at the needle tip.

A new approach to sustainable solid waste incineration: the concept and generic feasibility study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
A method of waste incineration using pure oxygen or atmospheric air enriched with oxygen is proposed, demonstrating several advantages over conventional burning in atmospheric air. The higher flame temperature is predicted, even with low calorific value waste, ensuring the complete decomposition of harmful substances such as dioxins.

Biomass Nanofiber‐Assembled Superhydrophobic Aerogels with Simultaneously Enhanced Mechanical Strength and Shape Recovery

open access: yesSmall Structures, EarlyView.
This study proposes a hierarchical fabrication strategy for biomass‐derived aerogels. Chitosan and sodium alginate are assembled into nanofibers via ultrasonication, then forming an anisotropic honeycomb‐like microstructure through freeze casting. Methyltrimethoxysilane modification further enhances the aerogel's strength (105.7 kPa at 80% strain) and ...
